Your mental and emotional health & the mind-body connection truly matter, and are critical factors of the fertility puzzle, and yet are so often overlooked. This is where my focus lies! When you’re fully aware that your catastrophic thoughts are irrational, but your nervous system and emotional brain (the amygdala) react as if the danger is happening right now.

Even when you logically know you’re safe, your primitive brain reacts to uncertainty as an immediate threat. Because the emotional amygdala responds faster than your rational mind can reason, it floods your body with adrenaline before logic can intervene. This leaves you trapped in a loop where your body experiences the full terror of a worst-case scenario, and your mind invents catastrophes just to justify why your heart is racing so fast.

Want to break this loop and regain control? Click the link in my bio to book a free 15-minute call and discover how a solution-focused approach can help you reclaim your calm.

When someone is struggling to breathe due to panic, breathing together allows you to use your own calm nervous system to soothe and stabilise their distressed state. ♥️

When panic takes over… 🚨

A panic attack triggers massive physical surges. Because it feels like a genuine physical emergency, seeing your GP to rule out underlying health issues is incredibly powerful. Once a doctor confirms you are healthy, you get the ultimate “safety signal” to use next time your mind panics.

If you’ve never experienced an attack before, getting medically cleared - as did - is step 1.

Beyond medical reassurance, mastering fast grounding tools will help you reclaim control.

🧠 HOW TO CALM YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM FAST:
Bilateral self-tapping and orienting pull you out of a fight-or-flight spiral. Alternating left-and-right taps send rhythmic signals to both sides of the brain to activate your calming nervous system, while naming items around you stops the mental panic.

TRY THIS SIMPLE METHOD DURING A SURGE:
1️⃣ Cross your arms: Place your hands on opposite shoulders while keeping your breathing steady.
2️⃣ Tap alternately: Gently tap left, then right, in a slow, steady beat - breathing in and out with the rhythm.
3️⃣ Orient yourself: Look around you left & right, letting your eyes wander while your breath stays soft and continuous.
4️⃣ Keep breathing and tapping: Focus on that steady breath and alternating rhythm until the surge completely passes.

Collaborating with clients to break free from this cycle makes a huge difference in their lives, here’s what one of my clients said:

“My entire life changed for the better. Gaynor’s wisdom, insight and advice are unmatched. Within a few sessions she had such a huge impact on my life... Her advice during sessions helped me to conquer my panic attacks and get control of my anxiety.” 🤍

You don’t have to navigate this alone. Talk to your GP to get checked out first, and click the link in my bio or DM me if you’re ready for tailored support to calm panic and anxiety.

When you sit with someone in distress without giving advice, you offer a relational presence that helps calm a dysregulated nervous system through co-regulation. ♥️

You don’t need to rush to “fix it.” Offer your silent attention rather than rushing to fill the space with solutions. When you stay grounded, your physical and emotional presence acts as an anchor, allowing their nervous system to match your stability.

If they want to talk, just listen. Acknowledge their emotional state without minimising or judging what they feel.

When you make light of your pain after sharing something awful with your therapist...

Why do we automatically resort to humour or following with “But anyway, it’s fine!”?

Often, it’s a shield. We might be defending against empathy because genuine compassion feels too vulnerable, or protecting the therapist out of a fear that the event is too heavy for them to handle.

Other times, laughing may be a way of managing emotional capacity to keep despair or rage from flooding us, or a sign of low self-worth where we unconsciously try to deflect focused attention. For many, it’s simply childhood conditioning - a survival strategy learned in an environment where big emotions were trivialised or punished.

Moving past this survival strategy isn’t about forcing yourself to stop laughing. It’s about building a resilient mind and body through approaches that unstick traumatic memories from your nervous system so you can safely express real emotions without needing humour as an emergency brake. 🫶

When you’re living with OCD, the endless mental loops and checking rituals are absolutely exhausting.

But underneath the symptoms, what you are truly searching for is a genuine sense of safety and mental freedom.

Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy and adapted EMDR protocols don’t replace traditional Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). This is simply another way…a gentle, “bottom-up” approach that calms your central nervous system directly. By lowering your baseline anxiety first, your triggers naturally lose their intense grip, making it much easier to break out of frustrating cycles.

You’re not broken. You’re not alone. And you don’t have to carry this heavy weight by yourself.
