Make an effort
Concentrate
Then relax
And radiate
Here I am in a one-legged squat variation from my recent trip to Kefalonia.
In yoga we use our body (making an effort) to change our mind (concentrate), to open our heart (radiate).
We use our body to change our mind in several ways.
1. We balance our activity and rest. If we do nothing all day, our energy goes down. If we’re constantly on the go, our energy goes down. If we balance activity and rest our energy goes up.
2. We become aware of how our posture affects our mind. Every shape we make with our body sends a message to ourselves and others. It’s an image we’re projecting, a seed we’re planting, inwardly and outwardly. An open, confident posture changes our state of mind.
3. The way we hold our posture also affects our mental state. Within every pose there is a balance of activity and rest. In meditation pose I lift myself up through my spine but I relax down with my muscles.
Using our body to change our mind our mood lifts, our spirit rises, and our ‘heart opens’ as we start to feel good - which is really the goal! 🙏🔥🧡🔥🙏
