On Friday we celebrated the incredible volunteers of Warwick Vision whose dedication, compassion, and commitment make a real difference in the lives of others. The time, energy, and willingness to serve help create a more inclusive, supportive, and empowering community.

Thank you for your hard work, kindness, and the positive impact you make every day. Warwick Vision would not be the same without your enthusiasm and generosity. We are deeply grateful for everything you do and proud to have such inspiring volunteers at the heart of our organisation.

What a busy session!

A big thank you to Tracy, who joined us at our Leamington Club last week to lead a seated exercise session.

Our members thoroughly enjoyed getting involved, with plenty of movement, music and singing along.

It was a fun and uplifting morning that left everyone smiling, and we're very grateful to Tracy for sharing her time and energy with us. 🧡

Last Friday was a very special day...

We welcomed some of our wonderful volunteers to our Warwick office for our Volunteer Excellence Awards.

We were delighted to be joined by Simon Pargeter, Mayor of Warwick, and Tim Cox, His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Warwickshire, to celebrate the incredible contribution they make to our charity.

Keith Eales, our CEO, shared heartfelt stories for each volunteer that reflected the kindness, commitment and generosity shown every day.

Volunteers are vital because their support helps us reach out to visually impaired people across Warwickshire, and they genuinely care and build relationships that make a real difference to people's lives.

They're far more than volunteers - they're part of the WVS family, and we could not be more grateful or proud of everything they do.

Your time, compassion, and unwavering dedication make a real difference to Warwickshire communities every single day.

Whether offering a listening ear, guiding someone safely, or simply being there with a kind word - your impact is immeasurable.

Volunteers are the heart of everything we do, and without you, none of this would be possible.

If you don't currently volunteer, but have thought about giving a little of your time to help others, we’d love to hear from you. Even a small commitment can make a big difference.

You could change someone’s life, and it might just change yours too.

Please get in touch.

We were delighted to host both an evening and daytime taster session for indoor curling in May at Heathcote Community Centre in Warwick.

As it's played indoors, the stones have small wheels underneath which allow them to travel once pushed.

No ice involved!

Roger, who runs a regular curling group, very kindly loaned us the equipment and offered to help with both sessions. We were incredibly grateful to him for his time and expertise.

The hall was set up with 4 lanes, each with a brightly coloured target mat at the end, plus a yellow chair just beyond the mat so those with some vision could locate the target.

Everyone was armed with a pusher - a broom-like pole with a plastic fitting designed to connect to the handle of the curling stone. This meant those in wheelchairs or unable to bend could still send their stones down to the target.

Helpers then guided each group using verbal instructions for where the target was such as “slightly more to your left”, or “aim for 11 o’clock”, while also describing how close each stone landed so players could adjust their force accordingly.

Everyone’s competitive nature kicked in and we saw some superb curling skills developing.

It turned out to be a really uplifting and fun session with lots of laughter along the way. 🥌

It's been an incredibly bright and sunny weekend and this week looks to be the same, so we thought we'd cover the issues associated with glare.

Glare isn’t just a bit of brightness - it can be seriously disabling for many people living with sight loss.

Whether it's bouncing off mirrors, polished floors or windows, intense light can scatter inside the eye, reducing contrast and making it hard to see clearly.

For those with cataracts or macular disease, even everyday light can cause pain or mobility issues.

When outdoors, we recommend popping on a wide-brimmed hat or a peaked cap, or you could try polarised fit-over sunglasses.

We stock the Cocoons Originals, which are especially designed to reduce glare from all angles.

They fit comfortably over prescription glasses and each frame has integrated brow and underside protection to eliminate reflected light from above and below. The side shields block peripheral light without compromising the wearer's range of vision.

Addressing glare may not solve everything, but it can make a huge difference in how someone moves through their day.

If you'd like more information, please get in touch with a member of our team.
