Choosing the right trocar can make a real difference in feline laparoscopic surgery.

Cats have thinner abdominal walls and more delicate tissues than many other patients, so every step of minimally invasive surgery deserves careful consideration, starting with safe abdominal access.

This GIMA™ Diatermo MB 120D electrosurgical unit came to us with an intermittent bipolar foot pedal fault.

The cause? A damaged foot pedal connector.

Over time, repeated connections, pulling on the cable instead of the connector, or accidental force can damage the receptacle. What starts as a small crack can quickly become an unreliable electrical connection, making the bipolar function unsafe for surgical use.

Instead of replacing the entire foot pedal assembly, we:
- Repaired the damaged connector
- Restored all electrical connections
- Fully tested the unit to ensure safe, reliable performance

This repair cost around 6× less than replacing the complete foot pedal assembly, proving that early repairs can save both money and unnecessary downtime.

In a recent interaction with a veterinary practice in Wales and another in the South East, we saw a common challenge: limited clarity from their existing laparoscopy towers (non-premium systems), even during routine procedures.

The colour reproduction did not accurately reflect internal structures, making precision more difficult. The teams needed greater visual clarity to operate with confidence and efficiency.
