Getting older doesn’t mean giving up your independence.

Older drivers aren’t just older drivers - they’re people with years of experience behind the wheel.

Yes, our bodies, mobility and reactions can change as we age.

But that doesn’t automatically mean it’s time to stop driving.

At Herts Ability, we’re here to support you, not judge you.

Think of our driving assessment as an appraisal - a chance to understand what’s changed, explore solutions and help you stay safe, confident and independent on the road for as long as possible.

Because sometimes, the right support can make all the difference.

Your age doesn’t define your ability to drive.

A spinal cord injury can change life in an instant. But it doesn’t take away the desire for freedom, independence and choice.

For many people living with a spinal cord injury, getting behind the wheel again can mean so much more than driving.

🚗 It’s getting to work independently.

💙 Seeing friends and family on your own terms.

🛣️ Going where you want, when you want.

🙌 Rebuilding confidence after life has changed.

As Herts Ability Patron Jonathan Goodwin says:

🗣 “What Herts Ability do is extraordinary: They give people their freedom back. Being able to drive again is like being given wings.”

At Herts Ability, we help people explore what’s possible through specialist driving assessments, expert advice and support tailored to the individual.

Every spinal cord injury is different.

Every journey back to independence is different too.

But with the right advice, adaptations and support, driving may still be possible.

If you or someone you know is living with a spinal cord injury, we’re here to help you discover your options.

Driving is about so much more than getting from A to B - it’s freedom, confidence & independence. And now, Herts Ability has a new home in Harlow, where Sarah & Ayo are ready to help you keep moving forward!

You can now find us at:

🏢 Harlow Enterprise Hub
Edinburgh Way
Harlow
CM20 2NQ

🚗 Our weekly driving assessment clinics every Wednesday and Thursday continue from our new home, supporting people of all ages and abilities to drive safely, confidently and independently.

Whether you’re returning to driving following illness or injury, adapting to a change in mobility, or looking for expert advice about driving safely, they’re here to support you every step of the way.

⚠️ An important update on our off-road assessments

The redevelopment of our previous Harlow site means we no longer have access to the off-road driving track. As a result, we’re currently unable to offer off-road assessments for:

• First-time drivers

• Non-licence holders

• People requiring specialist high-tech driving assessments

🤝 We know how important this service is, and we’re actively working with Harlow Council and local partners to explore solutions and restore off-road assessments to the community.

In the meantime, our team is very much here, continuing to support people from our new Harlow home!

Whether you’re a familiar face or visiting us for the first time, we can’t wait to welcome you!

👏 Celebrating Milly’s marvellous achievement!

A huge congrats to our amazing client, Milly, who has shown just how much confidence, determination and the right support can make a difference...

Born without her left forearm, Milly initially found the idea of driving with a disability daunting. But with the support of our expert team, she discovered what was possible - and found the right adaptations to make driving work for her.

As Milly puts it:

🗣️ “I felt welcomed straight away. My Herts Ability Driving Instructor was amazing, guiding me through the process and helping me find the right adaptations. Driving no longer feels impossible!”

From feeling unsure to feeling empowered, Milly has gained the confidence and clarity to get behind the wheel - and now she’s encouraging others to take that first step too.

If you’re starting to drive, returning to driving, or wondering what adaptations could work for you, you don’t have to figure it out alone. We’re here to help!

At Herts Ability, we’re passionate about helping people regain their independence - & today we’re celebrating David from Digswell!

After a major operation, David was determined to get back behind the wheel. With the support of our expert instructors, tailored lessons, and the right hand controls, he passed his driving assessment on the first attempt!

Now he and his wife Gill are back on the road, exploring again in their much-loved motorhome - proof that with the right help, anything is possible.

💬 David told us: “After practicing with Herts Ability, I found the hand controls so easy to use - I had no issues at all!”

💬 Gill added: “We can’t thank the team enough for giving David his confidence back. It has made such a difference to his mental health and well-being!”

Stories like David’s remind us why we do what we do!

Helping people stay mobile, independent, and confident is at the heart of our mission.

Need support with accessible driving solutions? We’re here for you!

KICK-OFF WITH INCLUSION! ⚽️ The Premier League is back. But football isn’t just something you hear. It’s something you can feel...

This incredible handheld device is changing the way visually impaired fans experience football, transforming passes, tackles, movement and goals into immersive tactile feedback.

From the opening whistle to the final celebration, the beautiful game becomes something you can literally hold in your hands.

This is what happens when technology meets inclusion.

Because football belongs to everyone. Always.
