Should I exercise through pain? This is a question we are often asked❗️

For most muscle and joint problems, complete rest isn’t usually the answer.

Recent research shows that:
⭐️Keeping active and exercising in a graded way often leads to reduced pain and function rather than stopping completely
⭐️Carefully loading tissues helps them adapt and get stronger, rather than weaker
⭐️Some discomfort during rehab doesn’t automatically mean harm, as long as symptoms settle and don’t worsen over time

Large reviews and clinical studies (2024–2025) support using exercise plus good education, rather than rest alone, for many common MSK problems — including tendon pain, back pain and persistent joint pain.

That’s why we often encourage people to keep moving within safe limits, and to stop or modify exercise when pain becomes sharp, worsening, unstable, or lingers beyond 24 hours.

The aim isn’t “push through pain” — it’s finding the right level of challenge for your body 💪!

📣 We’re delighted to welcome Sue Sibley to the Physio Vineyards team!
Sue is a Senior Neuro Physiotherapist, supporting people following stroke and those living with Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, and other neurological conditions. She focuses on personalised rehabilitation to improve movement, independence and confidence at every stage of recovery.
She is also able to offer home visits for patients who find it difficult to attend the clinic.
