Singing to your child is a great way for them to hear words. They may choose to listen or join in with you. Why not try singing a lullaby to your little one in the language you know best. Check out the below video to see and hear it in action.

Did you know one of the Sandwell talking Tips is all about singing songs, rhymes and sharing books with your child?

Here’s why all of these activities are so important:
βœ… Singing and rhymes help your child hear lots of new words – and eventually use them as they join in
βœ… Sharing books introduces words they might not hear in everyday conversation
βœ… Adding actions during story time and rhymes makes it easier for them to understand what the words mean
βœ… Your child can take the lead and β€œtalk” in their own way – by pointing, smiling, making sounds, or saying words.
πŸ’‘ Try it today! Whether it’s a favourite nursery rhyme or a bedtime story, these moments make language learning fun and natural.

Did you know that simply watching and waiting to see what your child is interested in β€” and then responding β€” is a brilliant way to build their confidence and make them feel happier? πŸ’›
It shows them that what they choose matters and helps develop their communication from the very start.

Here are a couple of easy activities to put this into practice:
β€’ Pots and pans – let your child explore the sounds they can make, then copy and join in.
β€’ Toy selection – put out a few toys, wait for your child to choose, and follow their lead instead of picking for them. If they point to a part of the toy, name it for them.
