Good morning 😊

Look at this weeks haul of fruit and veg from our gardens and polytunnel!

We’ve been a little bit limited in production this year with the building work in progress, but we are so grateful for everything the garden gives us. 🙏

Aside from a few picks for the garden volunteers much of this has gone up to the The Village Larder today for our Larder Customers to get from the FREE fridge.

📣Our free veg is available to our customers when they pay for their weekly shop. 📣

This time of year is when those of us in gardens where we feel the abundance and gratitude for the season that is before -whether it be food, flowers or greenery that we love most, September is always a good month.

🙏Big thanks to everyone who lends a hand with our project and has lifted us up recently! 🤝

That includes our dedicated volunteers who not only fill our gardens with fruit, veg and herbs, but with their joy, determination and positivity. 🙌

Also a wee mention of our honorary volunteer and neighbour Margaret who often gifts us with little things that we need like a borrowed extra brown bin, mugs, canes and always boosts us with affirming comments and motivation. 🙏❤️
Big thanks to our neighbour Alan for his support and friendship.

😊A BIG Thankyou to Largs Mens Shed for donations of occasional tools they can’t use, and recently shelving, and potting tables that they delivered for us! 🙏

We’ve had a tricky year navigating our gardening around building work that has taken longer than anticipated, but every smile & conversation we have with people when gardening, and all the support we’ve received has energised us and the project.

I know everyone has been asking about when the building is ready- we are not there yet but hopefully it’s not too long away. We did manage to shelter from a horrid downpour inside for the first time last week, but it’s still got a bit of work needing doing before we can use it properly.

We will get there-
Thank you for all the good vibes and support 🤩

If anyone is having a kitchen installation done and they have 600 or 900 unit carcasses in ok condition that are going to go to landfill then please get in touch with Fi 07903404224 (text is preferred) as we are looking for a few to save some money on our wee kitchenette in the Garden Haven building.

Also useful are cuttlery sets, teaspoons, kilner jars for storing our tea blends, crockery, teapots, those wee tea strainers for individual cups, plywood offcuts that are a reasonable size.
Floor cushions and folding chairs and tables may be considered too.
(Photographs of what you have available can be sent via whatsapp or on here and we can consider if they are useful.)

Anything we can save on these items can help us with other costs that we have for getting the place set up and ready for use.

Many thanks

During the winter, when there was less gardening to do, I thought I would get some studying done. I am a trained complementary therapist, not a trained gardener, so this Certificate in Social Therapeutic Horticulture Practice course helped me bridge these skills better.
I am looking forward to applying some of this knowledge and methodology to the gardening sessions in the future, and for our lovely Garden Stewards to do the introductory course in the Autumn.

Gardening is therapy for so many of us! ( I know it is for me!)
If you would like to see the benefits of social gardening yourself, then please come and join us at our volunteer sessions.
The next one is tomorrow 10-1 at the Community Roots Gardens (incorporating the Boyd Orr) at 115-117 Main Street, across from the pharmacy.
We have a few volunteers going on a field trip to Eglington Park tomorrow so it will be a quieter session, so any extra hands are appreciated. No experience necessary- like I said- I am not a trained gardener and we all muddle in together :)
