Nobody tells you that you might feel the urge to push BEFORE you’re fully dilated. And nobody tells you what to do when it happens either. 😅

But the urge to push before 10cm doesn’t mean something’s gone wrong. It can happen because of baby’s position, a cervical lip, or even just your body moving faster than the everyone was expecting. Birth doesn’t always follow the textbooks! And this is just one of those variations of normal.

This is exactly why birth preparation isn’t just about knowing the stages of labour. It’s about knowing enough that when something unexpected happens, you don’t freeze. You can move through it.

Your job if this happens is to simply stay in your body and not spiral. Remind yourself it’s normal. Remind yourself that your body is doing everything it can to help you. Remind yourself that instincts are important.

And if you want to be sure to be as prepared as possible for expected, the unexpected and everything in between… that’s exactly what I’m there for. Link in bio for 1:1 and On Demand Hypnobirthing options 🥰

Delayed cord clamping is pretty standard now in many hospitals and across many trusts. However… there’s a bigger conversation to be had!

Because there is no set standard of time for “delayed” cord clamping, it means that could be anything from waiting 10 seconds, to 10 minutes and neither of these options have a consideration for how much blood is left within the cord and placenta.

That’s where “wait for white” comes in. This means waiting for the cord to turn white/cream and for the cord to stop pulsating. This means all the blood retained within the placenta and cord (around 33% of baby’s full blood supply) can flow back to baby.

As this helps improve baby’s iron stores, and can support their immune system and brain development - it’s a very important consideration as you plan your birth.

Don’t forget, this can also be done in births with intervention like induction and in c-sections too 🥰

Save this for later so you don’t forget to include it on your birth plan 🤫

I don’t even know how we got to the point of telling pregnant women that sweeps weren’t induction???

Honestly, i think this is one of those interventions in birth I’d always tread lightly with. If it’s possible for the sweep to be done, it’s likely your body is already in the process of preparing for labour… so for some it’s really better to just hang off and wait that little bit longer for things to happen naturally.

That being said, a sweep might be seen as a helpful starting approach for someone that is without a doubt entering the induction of labour process.

What was your experience in having a sweep? Did it bring labour forward at all for you?

If the word hypnobirthing has ever made you roll your eyes, this one’s for you. 👀

I get it. I really do. Because when you’re already anxious about birth, the last thing you need is someone telling you to just think positive and trust your body. That advice lands nowhere when you’re ✨ spiralling ✨ in full blown panic mode.

Hypnobirthing has a bit of an image problem 😅 and the name doesn’t friggin help 🤣 But what’s actually underneath it is so far from the woo-woo stuff you’re imagining that I needed to make this whole carousel just to set the record straight.

It’s not about convincing yourself birth won’t hurt. It’s not crystals and positive affirmations and hoping magic lands giving you a positive birth. It’s nervous system science. Applied to birth. And it works for epidurals, c-sections, inductions - and every kind of birth inbetween.

DM me “SHOW ME” and I’ll send you a free video from inside Breathe Easy so you can get a feel for Hypnobirthing before you commit to anything. No strings. Watch whenever you’re ready.

Because I’m actually, really really sure, I’m going to change your mind hehe 🤭

Hypnobirthing teacher, birth coach, and apparently also a chef 👩‍🍳

Because I’ve spent the past 5 years cooking up a business that has been changing lives.

Still feel a bit shooketh saying that, but it’s true.

We are now birthing within a maternity system not remotely interested in ensuring you leave the experience feeling emotionally well. There’s a severe lack of support during pregnancy, next to no help in creating a birth plan that works for you and the “antenatal education” provided leaves more women scared than prepared.

So that’s where I come in. I help anxious pregnant women claim back their confidence, find calm and help them build the knowledge necessary to actually ready for birth. And I do it with the utmost care and compassion, because I know what it feels like to be terrified of an experience that feels out of your control. I know what it’s like to walk away from birth feeling shook to the core instead of empowered. And that’s what makes Breathe Into Birth special. Feeling seen, heard and supported in a way only someone who “truly gets it” can.

Fear of birth is so common it’s almost become a rite of passage. But it doesn’t have to be your whole pregnancy experience. And it doesn’t need to shape your birth experience either.

It happens with real, honest birth preparation that meets you exactly where you are - fear and all.

So. My newly pregnant bestie - if the thought of birth makes your stomach drop, you’re in the right place.

Drop a 🍳 below if you too have been told where you belong and just loveeeeeee to show em the power of a woman in return 💪🏻

Having a positive birth experience is very rarely an accident. So no… “winging it” isn’t really going to cut it.

I know that might sting a little. But hear me out.

A positive birth doesn’t come from hoping to ‘get lucky’ on the day. And it actually doesn’t even come from having a “perfect” birth plan or a pain-free labour.

Nope.

It comes from walking into that birth room feeling ready. Mentally and physically - for whatever happens next.

And that takes a bit of work. But the good kind. 😜

The kind that starts at the beginning of pregnancy, not when you’re spiralling at 38 weeks wishing you’d looking into Hypnobirthing or something.

The kind that involves your birth partner actually knowing what to do, instead of ‘staying up top’and mumbling “keep going” every now and then.

The kind that gives you real tools - not just a hope and a prayer - for when things feel hard.

Because birth can be hard. And that’s okay. But you actually don’t have to feel frightened of that. You can feel equipped for it instead.

I know you’ve been putting off thinking about birth because it feels scary. I know it feels easier to just bury your head in the sand. But this is your sign to start. With kind, honest support, you’ll be amazed at how easy a positive birth starts to seem.

The earlier you start, the more time we have to work on rewriting that narrative of yours that keeps telling you a positive birth isn’t possible.

And that’s exactly why I’m here. Follow for more birth tips, or DM me “info” if you’re ready to dive in deeper.

We’ve been getting a taste of summer this week in sunny Scotland... the place where it is literally never sunny! ☀️

But it’s got me absolutely buzzing on summer vibes. Summer is my favourite time of year and I love that school holidays gives me a chance to really embrace slow-ness alongside the kids. Something i’ve honestly, lost a little bit of in the chaos of the past few years. 🫣

Sometimes I think we forget how deeply conditioned we are to ‘accept’ a way of living that might not suit us. Sometimes I think we forget how much power we have over our circumstances.

So this summer i’m welcoming in everything that brings joy and calm.

Sangria in hand. Peace firmly protected. Time with loved ones. Cherishing alone time. Zero apologies for it all 🤣

If you’re new here - hi, I’m Kelly. I’m a hypnobirthing educator and birth coach based in Scotland and I help pregnant women completely transform the way they’re facing the next season of their life. I know you’re conditioned to believe that it’s normal for birth to be traumatic. That you have to be miserable as you navigate sleepless nights, and the change in identity as you enter motherhood.

But i don’t.

My approach isn’t about toxic positivity. It’s about meeting you where you’re at, and helping you see that there’s a way up from here. That fear can be turned into calm. That self-doubt can become confidence. That your mind that spends all it’s time spiraling and worrying, can be rewritten.

I help you see you deserve better. But not only that you deserve better, that you can achieve it.

Whether you’re newly pregnant, third trimester, or somewhere in between and wondering if there’s a better way to prepare for birth than just winging it and hoping for the best... you’re SO in the right place.

Would love to hear what you’re welcoming in this summer. Leave me a comment ☀️ and make sure you follow along if you feel like you’d love more support in this season of your life.

Confession…

Vernix used to totally gross me out. Infact, I explicitly remember having conversations with friends before I fell pregnant saying that I would need my baby wiped as soon as they came out!

In reality, I completely forgot about it by the time she was born. She wasn’t wiped and I soaked my new baby up without so much as a thought about vernix! Ick, overcome 🤣

You honestly don’t mind it as much as you think you’re going to, and even more so once you know the benefits it brings!

Natures way of protecting baby and their delicate little skin!

Did you know it had a purpose? Let me know in the comments!
