We’re still buzzing from our School Games event on Tuesday 🎉

Over 400 children and young people came together for a This Girl Can event and Cheerleading Competition at Medway Park 🎖️ 🙌

For , Year 6 and Year 7 pupils got stuck into a range of activities including dance, cheerleading, self-defence and football. All designed to build confidence, teamwork and social skills.

The energy continued into our cheerleading competition, where squads from 19 schools wowed the crowd with brilliant routines, showcasing impressive stunts, jumps and dance moves.

A huge thank you to:
👏 Vista Twisters for leading the cheerleading elements.
👏 Arts Point, Sport on Your Doorstep and Rainham School for Girls for delivering such engaging activities.

💬 “What a fantastic day, full of energy, enthusiasm and smiles from start to finish. Congratulations to everyone who took part. It was an amazing celebration of confidence, creativity and sport!”. Karen Cheese, Events and School Games Coordinator, Active Kent & Medway

At the heart of our Place Partnership work in Thanet, local partners are coming together to share ideas and shape a shared vision for healthier, more active communities.

Leadership training has played a key role in this, creating space for open conversations, reflection and collective thinking.

💬 “There's always a great energy in the room at these meetings. Seeing our spaces through somebody else's eyes has been really helpful.” Katie Pope, Mayor of Margate

💬 “It's interesting building on the conversations we were having, seeing how it's progressing and strengthening those local links.” James Fisher, Margate Library

This collaborative place-based approach will be key to driving meaningful, sustainable change across Thanet, creating the conditions for communities to become more active and thrive.

From non-traditional activities like Kin-ball, Tchoukball and Flag Football to practical sessions focused on engaging the least active students, a day packed with inspiration and learning that supports more inclusive and positive experiences in PE, school sport and physical activity.

A huge thanks to our event partners Christ Church Sport & Active Health and to everyone involved in the day.

Active Thames, the community sport and wellbeing programme led by the Port of London Authority, has awarded over £210,000 to 28 community projects across London, Kent and Essex.

Medway Watersports Centre is one of the 2025-26 grant recipients. The grant will be used to upgrade its kayak fleet, train additional paddlesports instructor and expand delivery on the River Medway so more people can safely take part in paddlesports. (Photo credit: Medway Watersports Trust)

We caught up with Nikki, a Live Longer Better network member who sums up why she joined the network:

💬 “It has given us opportunities to attend network meetings and build relationships with new organisations who are working with older adults.”

If you support people aged 55+ in Kent and Medway, the Live Longer Better Network brings together organisations and professionals who want to help older adults live longer, healthier and more active lives.

As Nikki says 💬 “No one organisation can do this work on their own. So don’t hesitate. Join the network. Let’s learn and collaborate together and make a real difference for older adults.”
