Stuck in the same injury cycle, over and over?

A few exercises you found online won't break that pattern. A personalised strength plan built around your running will.

I've spent 16 years working with sports injuries, with a focus on runners, helping them get back to training and (the part that is most important) stay there.

Whatever running means to you, whether it's your "me time," chasing a new PB, or your Saturday morning catch-up with friends (anyone for parkrun!!), I get it. I'm a runner too, and I know how much it matters when something threatens to take it away.

First session back at the gym after nearly 2 weeks of planned rest!

Iโ€™m still managing a high hamstring tendon issue which really doesnโ€™t like deep hip flexion hence the shallow squats- I will be aiming to get deeper without flaring the pain before adding more weight.

Post Race!

Prepare to feel low after the event & for your emotions to be all over the place. You need to rest & recover properly afterwards & keep reminding yourself about your massive achievement ๐Ÿ’ช

This is something that you have worked towards for months (maybe years) & no one can take it away from you!

Logistics!

Use your race day kit during training runs to make sure it is comfortable.

Work out when you are going to be travelling, if you need to pick up your race number or will it be sent to you prior to the event? How are you going to get to the start? Will you be able to get a good nightโ€™s sleep?

You could write a checklist for these things to avoid forgetting anything or creating unnecessary stress!

3 Ways to Incorporate Strength Training into Your Running Plan

Most runners skip strength training because they donโ€™t know how to fit it in to their schedule (without wrecking their legs!). Here are 3 ways we can manage this:

๐Ÿ’ช Work with the time you have available. You donโ€™t need to spend hours in the gym, 20-30 minutes twice a week is a great start. This gets booked into your diary on a weekly basis.

๐Ÿ’ช Use full body workouts which spread the load so you legs are never too fatigued for you to run well.

๐Ÿ’ช Programme in a way that suits you. If you donโ€™t want , or lack the time, to go to a gym, you can train at home. If you enjoy lifting heavy weights we can incorporate that. Short on time? We wonโ€™t use exercises that take a while to set up!

To improve your strength to complement your running, you just need to be consistent & gradually increase the weight, number of reps or sets over time.

Stick to your own plan on race day & try not to get carried away by the atmosphere. Ignore what everyone else is doing!

Remember marathons are hard which is why not many people run them!

Whatever happens be proud of your efforts & achievement. Keep reminding yourself of your why when things get tough.

Mendip Challenge 20 miles 2026 ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

Great day out on the trails of the Mendips supporting Weston Hospicecare. The 4th time that Iโ€™ve done this distance (& the fastest!).

Last Friday I had the pleasure of spending the day in a room full of inspiring & supportive women, all of whom have businesses in health & fitness.

Some thought provoking talks & an incredibly helpful mastermind group that gave me the confidence to take my business to the next level.

Normally out of my comfort zone to turn up to an event where I donโ€™t know anybody but everyone was so friendly & supportive that there was no need to be worried.

I would encourage anyone to get yourself into a group like this if you run your own business. Itโ€™s amazing to be able to chat about things with like minded people who just get it!

I would also highly recommend visiting Battersea if you are in the vicinity of London, I was so impressed by the area.
