I’ve been spending some time recently with a new friend , and our nature-based get togethers have felt so energising! Zoë is a nature connection guide and offers online gatherings exploring different themes within the natural world. After our recent meet up, I felt compelled to explore the overlaps between high sensitivity and nature connectedness.

I found this study that seems to confirm my hunch - that HSPs feel more connected to nature, respond more positively to nature-based therapies, and are more likely to make pro-environmental changes than non-HSPs.

If you are highly sensitive (or even if you aren’t), I hope that you find this helpful in understanding the correlating anxiety around environment issues and high sensitivity. This for me explains why climate anxiety can feel particularly intense, because we care so much and feel a closely intertwined relationship with our natural world, and all beings.

Starting a business? Changing careers? Leaving a relationship? Finally prioritising yourself?

Perhaps you’re having a moment where you can feel yourself wanting something more. You’re experiencing that ni**le telling you something has to change. But for some reason you feel too terrified to make any real progress in moving forward.

I see this all too often! And usually the block is a deeper protective mechanism underneath it all. Parts of us learnt that it wasn’t safe to take up space or to disappoint others… and the result is that we don’t trust ourselves.

Which is why the work I do helps you to understand WHY a part of you puts of the brakes every time you try to change things. This knowledge often brings a liberating feeling with it, because we finally understand, and can reassure the little girl that just wanted to feel safe, seen and protected.

If you’d like to arrange a chat with me, send me a private DM (or link in bio to book straight in to my Calendar). From one dream maker to another, I’d love to know all about your dreams 🥹

Many people aren’t just empathetic, they’ve learned over time to be emotionally responsible for others and this is when it becomes emotional enmeshment.

The distinction matters because true empathy is about holding compassion for others without losing our sense of self, or feeling responsible as though we need to do something to fix it for another person.

When we continue to be enmeshed with others, it can deplete our own energy resources and cause us to feel guilt, overwhelm and anxiety, as well as risking having our boundaries overstepped, or being taken advantage of.

Learning to check in with how you are feeling in the moment, and catching yourself before becoming enmeshed is so important if we want to thrive as HSPs. Yes we can be empaths and hold space and compassion for others, but we don’t need to lose ourselves in doing that.

When I first came across the term "Otrovert", I felt it gave language to something I've heard so many highly sensitive people describe. The feeling of preferring to observe rather than joining in. One of seeking and craving deep connection, but still feeling a bit like an outsider. Of having a strong inner compass, that doesn't always direct you in the same path as the group.

I don't think these ideas are about the label or the definition, but actually more the recognition of not feeling alone in something. That sense of "oh, I thought it was just me" can bring so much resonance that it can help us feel less alone, and more understood. If we have language that helps others to understand our experiences, it allows us to have even better and deeper connections with people, and feeling empowered to design a life that works for us rather than forcing ourselves into a system that wasn't built with us in mind.

Maybe the power isn't in trying harder to fit in, but learning that you don't have to.

SAVE AND THANK ME LATER 🏆
Athletes and performers use visualisation all the time to mentally rehearse success before it happens. Why? Because the mind doesn’t fully distinguish between what’s imagined and what’s real.
So the more you practise being that version of you…
the more natural it starts to feel.
Save and try this future pacing exercise for when you need to reconnect with where you’re going!
What came to you when you tried this?

It's been a JOURNEY let me tell you

It's been so amazing in so many ways, but also the most confronting and challenging thing as well. I do honestly love it, all of it, even the tough moments because it shows me more clearly what it is I want. Everything is either a lesson or a redirection and I am here for it. I hope this helps if you are a small business owner, especially if

you are a highly sensitive girlie like me

I came across the term "portfolio living" recently, and discovered this is something I have created for myself naturally after exploring what it would actually look like to create a life that works with my sensitivity, individual needs and desires. So I wanted to share it with you because this may be a practical solution for struggling HSPs.

I realised a few years ago that I don't thrive in a "one thing forever" model. I need variety, creativity, adequate rest, flexibility, freedom and autonomy. I also couldn't shake a deep sense that I wasn't using my time wisely or meaningfully, and felt stunted and suffocated in a job that didn't light up my soul (yet on paper it should have given me everything I needed).

So I've started to build a portfolio life for myself! Right now, this looks like a blend of
- my own hypnotherapy business
- a part time office job
- creative work: photography & painting, potentially selling prints on Etsy very soon!
- optional locuming as an Optician one day a week
- intentional time off

It may not be perfectly balanced yet, but I've designed it to evolve with me as I navigate a multidimensional lifestyle 🤗

Is this a term you have heard of before? And do you think you might like to create something similar for yourself?
