POV SOCIAL MEDIA IS NOT THE FITNESS INDUSTRY
Oooh this was a tricky one to write 🫣 but from what I’ve been seeing on my feed lately, it’s definitely needed.
Seeing someone who’s fit, lean, or muscular on your feed doesn’t automatically make them a coach, expert, or qualified to help others achieve the same results.
There, I said it 😆🫠
A physique is proof that something worked for them. It isn’t proof that they understand how to coach different people with different goals, lifestyles, injuries, limitations, and experiences.
A day in the life of a working PT, Yoga teacher or anyone working in the health, fitness or wellness space just doesn’t look like a shiny body in a well lit gym or mirror. It looks like researching an injury, medication, looking after upset clients who are going through hard times, clients caring for multiple people. You’ll still have to turn up in rough times with a smile on your face & you will certainly neglect your own training at times.
The fitness industry is much bigger than social media. It’s made up of coaches, trainers, gym owners, athletes, & everyday people putting in consistent work behind the scenes. The majority of my clients aren’t thinking about pictures, they’re thinking about how they can get their kids to eat the same healthy meal as them so they don’t have to cook three different meals!
Too often, people see a few posts, a six pack, or a transformation photo and assume they’re looking at an authority. But knowledge, experience, communication skills, and the ability to help others get results can’t always be seen in a post. The real photos just aren’t that interesting.
Social media shows highlights. But people can’t always differentiate between someone’s highlight reel and real life & it can cause people to feel less than they are. If you are training regularly & eating as healthily as you can, within a normal daily life, you are winning!
Coaching happens in the trenches. Experience happens over years. Clients become fit and healthy and strong over YEARS.
Don’t mistake popularity for expertise, followers for qualifications, or a physique for coaching ability ❤️
