I wanted to share the journey of Emma. I dissolved her lips back in March following significant migration into the upper lip area. I am quick to add this was filler added by another practitioner, not me. We then gave ample healing time and refilled in August with 0.7 ml, for what Emma describes as ‘a naturally plump look’.

She has had quite the journey, but now has an understanding of filler migration and what signs to look out for:

Warning signs of lip filler migration — what to look out for

Lip filler migration is when hyaluronic acid filler moves beyond the intended treatment area, often creating a “filler moustache” or swollen appearance above the natural lip border.

* Filler visible or palpable above the natural lip line
* A ridge, shelf or puffy area between the upper lip and nose
* Loss of definition around the natural vermillion border
* An unusually heavy or swollen appearance despite the original filler having settled
* Asymmetry or changes in the shape of the lips
* Filler becoming lumpy or uneven over time
* A result that looks increasingly less natural as more filler is added

Migration can happen for a number of reasons, including product placement, injection technique, anatomy, repeated treatments and the amount of filler used. It isn’t always simply a case of “too much filler”.

The important bit: If you’re concerned about possible migration, don’t automatically add more filler. Have your lips assessed by an appropriately trained medical professional first.

Emma’s journey is a great example of why sometimes the best treatment is to take a step back.

Less can absolutely be more when it comes to lip filler.

It was lovely to welcome our runner-up winner into the clinic to collect her prize from our recent giveaway in collaboration with Sole Sisters & Co.

For the first time in decades, she feels comfortable leaving the house without make-up.

This lovely 53-year-old client came to Weymouth Aesthetics Clinic ahead of her wedding, wanting to improve her skin while still looking completely like herself.
