Dumble Bimble takes place today in memory of much-loved Portland athletics club members
A special running event is taking place on Portland today (Tuesday, September 1), remembering two much-loved members of the local athletics community while raising valuable funds for Weldmar Hospicecare.
The Dumble Bimble, organised by the Royal Manor of Portland Athletics Club, is held in memory of Alan and Andrew Dumble, the husband and son of Jan Dumble.
Jan is the driving force behind the event, which has a particularly special connection to the history of the club.
Alan was one of the original members when the club was formed, and it was one of his familiar sayings that inspired the eventβs unusual name.
Whenever Alan went out for a run, he would tell Jan: βIβm just going out for a bimble.β
And so, the Dumble Bimble was born.
Over the years, runners have inevitably had some fun trying to get the name right, with it being called everything from the βDimble Dumbleβ to the βBumble Bimbleβ β and plenty of other combinations!
Jan always says: βAlan would have loved this!β
Whatever you choose to call it β Bimble, Dimble, Bumble or anything else β runners will come together today for a very special event in memory of Alan and Andrew and to raise funds for Weldmar Hospicecare.
People are being encouraged to enter, support the event and donate to the charity.
