I don't talk about this enough......

Despite what I do and what my social media might show, I struggle with stress, and overwhelm.

And yesterday was one of those days.

Thankfully I'm much better at managing it than I used to be.

Because I support people with managing stress and overwhelm, I feel like I should have it all together but what I have come to realise is that my personal experience is part of what makes me good at what I do.

While no two people will have the same experiences, I definitely know how it feels to struggle and wonder how it will ever get better.

But it does, and reaching out for support, whether it be with a trusted friend or to a professional is the first step.

Exercise for your head and you'll always win.

I hear so many people exercising out of fear or guilt.

To burn off that treat or meal out.
Because it's their summer holiday in 4 weeks and they don't like their body.

I know it's hard when you are in that mindset, and there's been years of this being the norm.

But exercising to boost your mood, work off the stress of a bad day, is where the real wins are.

When it comes to improving your physical and mental health, understanding your why is what keeps you going when motivation fades.

Maybe it's having the energy to play with your children or grandchildren. Maybe it's feeling stronger, more confident, managing stress, reducing pain, or simply wanting to feel like you again.

The truth is, lasting change doesn't come from self-criticism. It comes from having a reason that matters to you.

Take a moment and ask yourself:

Cardio vs Resistance Training: Which Is Better?

People often ask me whether cardio or resistance training is best.

The answer?

Both have fantastic health benefits, but most people don't stop exercising because they've chosen the "wrong" type of training. They stop because it starts to feel like a chore.

As someone who understands the science behind exercise, I know the benefits of both, but I don't stick rigidly to one discipline. Some days I lift weights, other days I run, cycle, swim, or do something completely different. Variety keeps it enjoyable.

Because when exercise becomes something you dread, you avoid it.

So don't worry about whether cardio or resistance training is best, ask yourself:

From the outside, it can look like you’re managing everything well- keeping up with work, responsibilities, routines, and the expectations around you.

But constantly staying busy can sometimes become a way of avoiding how overwhelmed, unsettled, or emotionally exhausted you really feel underneath it all. And when things finally slow down, those feelings can become impossible to ignore.

You don’t have to wait until you’ve completely burnt out to ask for support.

Taking the first step can simply look like having a conversation about how you’ve been feeling and what support might help you move forward in a healthier, more manageable way.

Your goals are allowed to change. And changing direction doesn’t mean you’ve failed.
Sometimes it's because you've changed. And that’s a good thing. You’ve learned. You’ve experienced life. You’ve adapted.

A goal that once felt exciting might now feel draining/ unsustainable/ misaligned. Listening to yourself is not quitting. It’s self-awareness.

You are allowed to:
- change timelines
- choose rest
- change direction
- want different things
- redefine success

Your wellbeing matters more than forcing a plan that no longer fits.

Making changes rarely happens smoothly, there's often bends, pauses, completed u-turns and everything in between.

The goal is not perfection. The goal is a life that feels healthy, balanced, and aligned with you.
