Embodying Change | Yi Jing + Qi Gong Retreat
12-14 June 2026, Bonhays Retreat Centre, Dorset, UK
One of the big realisations for me having recently taught and practiced the Yi Jing with a group of people online, is that it is not a solo practice.
As I did for many years, we tend to make readings in solitude. But if we divine in collaboration - or at the very least simply share our reading - the meaning bubbles up in an entirely different way. More colour, more depth, more richness.
A few simple questions from a partner or teacher can unearth layers of meanings that you wonβt have considered. Even having someone simply witness your process can be helpful.
Traditionally the Yi Jing is explicitly collaborative, involving a priest, diviner-shaman or abbot. For civil or state matters, there would be larger teams of diviners working on a single issue - involving trance, meditation and skilful interrogation of the reading.
The Yi Jing is a remarkable resource but after a reading we can often be staring at the pages of an opaque ancient text thinking βwhat does this mean? how do I understand this? How can I be sure that I am right?β
The benefits of real time, in person conversation with its guidance, questions, prompts, commentary, space for nuance, new ideas, and a wider perspective - means we can create more powerful insights into our dilemmas or situations.
The beauty of it is that the inquiry to the Yi Jing is at the heart of it - meaning all parties are de-centred, divested of that rather dangerous role of advice-giver.
So although I have been working on and preparing my upcoming weekend retreat (12-14 June Bonhays Retreats) for a long time - and will be filling it with tools, information and inspiration for how to practice the art - ultimately the magic of it will come through the group.
And so.
To make the retreat even better I need to fill more places.
Whilst this is my problem - it is, hopefully, your opportunity. To make that even more so:
- I have reverted prices to early-bird (from Β£315 to Β£495, depending on level of food/board)
- I am offering 50% off follow-up sessions with me after the retreat (now Β£45)
- You will get my complete sixty-four page illustrated Yi Jing course book, full of instructions, ideas and techniques.
- For those experiencing financial difficulty but feel strongly drawn to come I am offering two cost price scholarships (ranging from Β£150 to Β£340) - first-come, first-served, no questions asked.
This is on top of all the goodies the retreat already offers such as the opportunity to learn the eight forms of the Yi Jing Qi Gong (as taught to me by Damo Mitchell , and with his blessing to pass on).
Not to mention the wonderful food, pool, gorgeous coast nearby and so on ..
