Do you know your blood pressure?

High blood pressure often has no obvious symptoms, so getting it checked is one of the simplest ways to look after your health.

During Know Your Numbers Week, we’re encouraging patients to take a few minutes to check theirs.

You might be able to have your blood pressure checked at a local pharmacy, at home if you have a monitor, or through the practice when appropriate.

If you get a high reading, don’t ignore it. Speak to a healthcare professional for advice.

Support for Carers in Greater Manchester

A carer is anyone who regularly looks after or supports a family member, friend or neighbour who would struggle without their help.

There are around 280,000 unpaid carers across Greater Manchester, including young carers, working carers and parent carers.

Caring for someone can affect your own health, wellbeing, finances, work and relationships. Greater Manchester is working to ensure carers are recognised early, listened to and given access to the right support. This includes health checks, GP appointments, wellbeing services, employment support and help to stay connected with the community.

Carers are also encouraged to create an emergency plan, so someone else knows what to do if they become unwell or are unable to provide care.

Small Changes Can Make a Big Difference

Looking after your health doesn't always mean making big changes.

Simple habits can have a positive impact over time:-
• Take a short walk each day.
• Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables.
• Drink enough water.
• Get a good night's sleep.
• Keep up to date with vaccinations and health checks.
• Stop smoking if you're ready to take that step.

Every positive choice adds up and can help improve your physical and mental wellbeing.

If you'd like support to live a healthier lifestyle, we're here to help.

Meet the Team - Dr Moneeb Afiz

After spending more than a year with us as a locum and now approaching two years as part of the Uplands family, Dr Moneeb Afiz has made a lasting impression on both patients and colleagues alike. His warmth, professionalism, and dedication to patient care have made him a valued member of our team, and the wonderful feedback we continue to receive from patients confirms what we already knew, he is a perfect fit for our practice.

Originally from Greater Manchester, Dr Afiz studied medicine in Milan before completing his GP training in East Lancashire. He is passionate about getting to the root of every problem and takes pride in providing thoughtful, patient-centred care tailored to each individual.
Outside of work, Dr Afiz is a proud father of three who enjoys spending time with his family, reading fantasy novels, and cheering on Liverpool FC.

Speaking about his decision to stay at The Uplands Medical Practice,
Dr Afiz said:
“The strong community spirit at Uplands is what made me want to stay. There’s a genuine sense of teamwork and commitment to patients that makes it a wonderful place to work.”

We are delighted that Dr Afiz has chosen to continue his journey with us and look forward to the positive impact he will continue to make for our patients and the wider community.
