One of the most common questions I get asked is:
"Which is better? Microsuction or irrigation?"

The honest answer is that it isn't as simple as saying one is better than the other.

Microsuction is often considered the gold standard and is frequently my go-to method. It is a dry procedure, requires virtually no aftercare and carries a lower risk of post-procedure infection compared with irrigation.

However, that doesn't mean irrigation isn't an excellent option. When appropriate and combined with the correct aftercare, irrigation can be highly effective for certain types of wax and may be more comfortable for some people than microsuction. Equally, some clients find microsuction more comfortable than irrigation.
Every ear is different, and every client is different.

Factors I consider include:

• The size and shape of your ear canal
• Your past medical history, health conditions, symptoms
• The type, location and stubbornness of the wax
• Previous ear problems or complications
• Previous experiences with wax removal
• Your comfort and tolerance during the procedure
• Your personal preferences

Because of this, there is no "one size fits all" approach.
I will always assess your ears and discuss the options with you before selecting the safest and most effective treatment. In many cases, I may even use a combination of microsuction and irrigation to achieve the best possible result.

I also provide robust aftercare advice and use evidence-based clinical methods to minimise the risk of complications wherever possible.

The ability to make these decisions safely comes from having the appropriate clinical background, training, experience, professional registration and regulation. As a registered nurse regulated by the NMC and CQC, I am accountable for the care I provide and committed to delivering safe, effective treatment tailored to each individual.

Today is a bittersweet day for our business as we say goodbye to my business partner, Serena, who has made the difficult decision to step away due to health reasons.

When we started this journey together, neither of us could have imagined just how much we would achieve. We've worked side by side with a shared passion for improving ear health and giving back to our local community.

Together, we've provided free ear health checks within the community, helping so many people access advice and support they may not otherwise have received. Last year, we were incredibly proud to partner with a local charity to provide ear health treatment to those who needed it most, making a real difference to people's lives.

We've celebrated some amazing milestones along the way, including being nominated for and winning the Silver Award for Start-Up Business of the Year at the Wigan Borough Business Awards. That recognition meant so much to both of us.

On a personal level, I will miss working alongside Serena enormously. She has been more than a business partner, she is a friend, a supporter and someone who has shared every challenge and success with me. I know many of our regular clients will miss seeing her too, as she has built such wonderful relationships with so many people.

While this chapter is coming to an end, I am incredibly grateful that Serena remains a close friend, and I know everyone will join me in wishing her the very best as she focuses on her health and wellbeing.

✨I would also like to reassure all of our clients that this change does not affect the services we provide. The business will continue as normal, and I remain fully committed to delivering the highest standard of care.
