Nobody talks about how difficult change feels and we might quietly wonder what is wrong with us.
We might often assume that if change is good, it should feel exciting and be easy.
But even positive changes can feel threatening.
A new relationship.
A new opportunity.
A healthier boundary.
A different way of living.
Our nervous system doesn't automatically distinguish between good change and bad change. It often simply registers ‘this is unfamiliar’ and unfamiliar can feel unsafe.
Change is not always uncomfortable because it's wrong. Sometimes it's uncomfortable because it's new.
I hope this might speak to you if you’ve been giving yourself a hard time about how difficult change can feel, even when we want it so much.
I hope understanding this might create more patience and compassion for yourself.
Return to Resilience offers a deep dive in an accessible, clear way to understanding ourselves through the lens of the nervous system, with life changing implications! Coming soon.
