‼️Emergency departments are extremely busy‼️

Please see the information below ⬇️

Our Emergency Departments in Grimsby and Scunthorpe are extremely busy at the moment – and the message we’re getting from our clinical teams is a lot of the patients arriving could be seen far more quickly elsewhere.

We’re always here for you if you need us – and if it’s an emergency, please don’t hesitate to come.

However, if it's not, there are some options we'd really appreciate it if you tried first.

If you're in North East Lincolnshire, you can call the Single Point of Access (SPA) line and speak to the team of expert clinicians who can give you advice and support over the phone. You can reach SPA 24/7 by calling 01472 256256
No matter where you are, you can also call 111.

Alternatively, you could call your GP or speak to your local pharmacist. If you do come to A&E and your condition is not urgent, we’re sorry but please prepare for lengthy waits, as we prioritise those with serious injury and life threatening illness.

With the bank holiday weekend coming up, it’s a really good time to check that you have a well-stocked first aid kit at home or in your car.

Things like plasters, antiseptic cream and painkillers can help you deal with minor accidents and injuries.

An amber heat-health alert has been issued for Humber and North Yorkshire and is in place until 9pm on Friday 14 August.

Please take care by staying hydrated, keeping cool, avoiding the hottest part of the day where possible, and checking in on anyone who may be more vulnerable.

An amber heat-health alert is in place across parts of England from today until 14 August.

During an amber alert, hot weather can put more people’s health at risk – not just those who are usually more vulnerable.

Older people, young children and people with existing health conditions may be particularly at risk.

Take extra care and look out for others who may struggle in the heat.

28/07/2026

Starting tomorrow, amber and yellow heat-health alerts have been issued across most of the country. They are in place for the 29 and 30 July.

Some people – particularly the elderly, very young, or those with existing health conditions – face a real risk to their health and need to take steps to keep cool.
