Just another day in the life of The Cheshire Osteopath…

One patient comes in with neck pain.

Another with shoulder pain.

A runner struggling with Achilles tendon pain.

A desk worker battling headaches.

A gardener with a sore back after a weekend in the garden.

Different people. Different stories. Different goals.

The common theme? Helping people move better, feel better, and get back to doing the things they love.

Every day is different, and that’s one of the things I love most about being an osteopath.

Just another day in the clinic… helping people live life with less pain and more freedom.

Happy Monday, Wilmslow! ☀️

Temperatures are set to climb to 25-31°C across the UK this week, so while we’re all keen to make the most of it, here’s a friendly reminder from your osteopath…

Hot weather often means a busy week of jobs and a few extra hours outdoors but jet washing, gardening, skip runs and even lounging in the garden can all put unexpected strain on your back, shoulders and joints if you’re not careful.

A few simple things to keep in mind this week:

💧 Stay hydrated
⏰ Avoid the sun between 11am-3pm
👕 Light clothing + sun protection
❤️ Listen to your body and rest when you need to

Look after yourself so you can actually enjoy the sun, rather than spend it nursing a bad back!

Have a brilliant, safe and pain-free week 🧡

Neck and shoulder pain doesn’t always come from where it hurts.

Tight muscles, stiff joints, poor posture, stress, repetitive movements, or even problems elsewhere in the body can all contribute to persistent neck and shoulder discomfort.

As osteopaths, we don’t just focus on the painful area we assess how the body is moving as a whole to identify and address the underlying causes.
If neck or shoulder pain is affecting your work, sleep, gym training, or everyday activities, treatment may help restore movement, reduce tension, and get you back to doing what you enjoy.

💡 “Why are you treating my hip when my pain is in my knee?”

It’s one of the most common questions I get as an osteopath.

The area that hurts isn’t always the area causing the problem.

The body works as one connected system, so restrictions, weakness, or poor movement elsewhere can place extra strain on the painful area.

For example, knee pain may be influenced by the hip, foot, or ankle. Neck pain may be linked to the upper back or shoulder.

Lower back pain may be affected by the hips, pelvis, or even how you walk.

That’s why osteopaths don’t just focus on where it hurt we assess how the whole body is moving to identify and address the underlying cause.
Treat the source, not just the symptom. ✔️

Headache that starts at the back of your neck? It might not be “just a headache.”

Cervicogenic headaches originate from the neck often from stiff upper cervical joints, tight suboccipital muscles, or poor postural loading (hello, desk work and phone scrolling).

Telltale signs:

• Headache starts at the base of the skull, often one-sided

• Neck stiffness or reduced range of motion

• Pain worsens with certain neck positions or movements

• Often mistaken for migraine or tension headache

The good news:
Because the cause is mechanical, it usually responds well to hands on treatment, joint mobilisation, soft tissue work to the suboccipitals and upper traps, and targeted exercise to address the postural drivers.

If your headaches keep coming back and painkillers only take the edge off, it’s worth having the neck properly assessed.
