Monday Morning Mindfulness from 9.15am until 10.15am
Mindfulness is an effective way of reducing the stress and anxiety that accompanies daily life. I invite you to slow down, let go of judgements and reduce your emotional arousal. We will soothe the mind to be present in the activity of the moment. Take a purposeful pause and make a conscious choice to wake up a balanced part of you. These sessi

ons are an invitation to develop the skills to create your own practice of mindfulness through focusing the mind with guided meditation and deepening awareness skills. You can choose to attend just one session or come on a regular basis. There is no need to book although feel free to phone or e:mail me if you would like to ask any questions or just to let me know you would like to come. I ask for a £5.00 contribution towards the cost of the room hire and supervision.

Monday Morning Mindfulness
10th October 2016 Session begins 9.15am-10.15am end time
The Discovery Centre Learning Room 1

Hello Monday Morning Mindfulness Group
Thanks for joining in the session today. We began with our introductory practice on breath awareness and I introduced the idea of beginner’s mind.
We learnt a little more about how members of the group are using mindfulness. One area is in mindfulness practice as a way of managing pain and also PTSD. In my studies, I have come across a neurologist Robert Scaer who works with trauma and chronic pain. His book 8 Keys to Brain Body Balance is an interesting account of how the body works in health and disease.
During the longer practice, we focused on developing a spaciousness of mind as we observed sounds in and outside of the room. I guided the group through a body scan and visualisation using a white light. We revisited skills in practice, counting the breath, using a visualisation of a blue sky and clouds as a way of letting go of thoughts and focusing on the spaces between each breath.
I suggested the group focus on developing a beginners mind as we look around us at the changing season.
Warm Wishes to you all. Orah Bradshaw

Monday Morning Mindfulness
3rd October 2016 Session begins 9.15am-10.15am end time
The Discovery Centre Learning Room 1

Hello Monday Morning Mindfulness Group
It is lovely to experience members using the group as a support. There are new members, those who have come for some time and those returning after a short break. Please let me know if there is any area you would like me to cover again or if you need support in any other way with your practice.
The way we focus our minds and pay attention at a default level is more about survival than quality of life. The world we live in stimulates our threat response again and again so that we stay stressed. We have to develop the intention to pay attention to our mental and physical states and return to our centred, balanced place.
The breath attention meditation and body scan, together with compassion for ourselves, offers the tools we need to manage our states. We need a regular practice and a practice that we can achieve in everyday life. Begin with 5-10 minutes a day every day and then see if you can pay attention with a 3-minute mindful awareness during the day.
Warm Wishes to you all and have a great week.
Orah Bradshaw

Monday Morning Mindfulness
19th September 2016 Session begins 9.15am-10.15am end time
The Discovery Centre Learning Room 1

Hello Monday Morning Mindfulness Group
Good to see you all today and welcome to some new members. It is nice to see new faces joining the group and those regular folk. I hope you continue to find the group supportive of your practice. I certainly get a lot from facilitating the sessions.
Today we looked again at the core practice of body, breath awareness and compassion, then played with the idea of sitting with difficult sensations. The skill of mindfulness and meditation as an exercise can strengthen the connections in the brain towards the experience of balanced and centred states of mind.
We also focused on the need to pause with presence to this moment right here. I was reminded as we ended the session, as the caretaker came into the room early to set up for the next group, how easily we can bump into each other creating ripples and ruptures in each other's worlds, many times without intention. When we struggle to experience compassion for another we need to remember to offer it to ourselves first. Only from a position of self-compassion can we respond to another with a balanced compassionate state.
I wish you all a wonderful week.
Orah Bradshaw

Hello Monday Morning Mindfulness Group

Sorry, I didn’t send a message last week…I mindlessly forgot as the day took on a life of its own. I need more mindfulness classes!
I hope those that come each week are experiencing a sense of belonging to the group. I get a feel from what is said and behaviours, that members experience a sense of the group as their own, I hope this is the case. I would wish that the e:mail offers an anchor to those who have attended in the past and might want to return in the future.
We welcomed a new member this week and returned to some of our mindfulness basics. I guided the group through a basic breath awareness practice and then a longer body scan meditation. I remind everyone that we begin with a pause and in the pause, we are aware and using the breath as an anchor we still the mind. This pause is taking us back to our baseline and giving our minds and bodies permission to be centred once more.
Our minds are wired to be busy, worrying about the past and planning for the future, without the intention to pay attention our minds constantly wander and we get stressed. Mindfulness offers the skills we need to find our original balanced and centred selves.
I suggested the group continued with the brief breath meditation, or a body scan and the loving kindness meditation during the following week. See how you get on.
Warm Wishes to you all and Thanks
Orah Bradshaw

Back After The Bank Holiday Break

Hello Monday Morning Mindfulness Group

A session today taking steps towards self-compassion and self-acceptance.

Mindfulness introduces a way to become more skilful at managing emotional states. We all have our funny ways, our individual likes and dislikes. We can find ourselves becoming irritated, by things around us, and we suffer. Mindfulness offers awareness which helps shift us from this place of suffering to acceptance.

When we are able to experience self-compassion, we can validate our struggles rather than giving ourselves a hard time. We can learn to let go and become more flexible.

We began with a breath meditation and a period of time to anchor ourselves in the present. We then used a visualisation of white liquid light to engage our awareness with the body and all of its sensations. I then introduced the idea of a half smile of compassion for another and ourselves. I invited the group to take this half smile into the week.

And a Happy birthday to Katie!

Warm Wishes Orah Bradshaw

THERE WILL BE NO SESSION NEXT WEEK
BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY 29TH AUGUST
Hello Monday Morning Mindfulness Group
A session today about presence. The importance of mindfulness as a way to engage with our awareness in the present moment with curiosity. Again and again, we focus on the breath and bring ourselves back to ourselves. The breath is under conscious and unconscious control, we can use it as an anchor, back to our baseline.
Our original state is one of calm and ease and we used these words to remind our breath how to be. Repeating “calm” on the in breath and “ease” on the out. I invite you to find an anchor at the beginning of each day and use it as a way of becoming present. It could be a word or words, or an image, for example, the green of the leaves on a morning walk, you decide. Just remind yourself throughout the day of the anchor and bring yourself to the present and breath.
Enjoy the bank holiday. See you in a fortnight.
Warm Wishes Orah Bradshaw

15th August 2016 Session begins 9.15am-10.15am end time
The Discovery Centre Learning Room 1

Hello Monday Mindfulness Group
Whatever we are or do in life we will be drawn to mindfulness for a reason. Last week I invited the group to consider what they hoped to gain from coming to the sessions.
Many of us simply want mindfulness to make life better. We want inner balance and to feel we are living in our own skin. It is important we give ourselves permission to live the life we want to live. Mindfulness can help us be present, and not miss out on our lives, making choices which are in keeping with our authentic selves.
This week we began this journey by finding the breath and learning to pause. The sounds from next door pulled at our attention and were part of our present moment. We experienced the distractions and practised letting go again and again as we focused the present moment experience in our bodies with the breath. We are learning to let go of distractions and stay with our bodies in this moment right here right now.
I wish you a wonderful week enjoy the sunshine and please come and join us if you can on Monday Mornings…you are all very welcome.
Warm Wishes Orah Bradshaw
