Bring back the "bog ponies" who had 100% self preservation and so taught you balance,, because if you could stay on you were safe as houses πŸ˜‚πŸ€žπŸ€žπŸ€ž

🐴 IF OUR CHILDHOOD PONIES HAD NUMBER PLATES, HOW MANY OF US WOULD HAVE ENDED UP WITH POINTS ON OUR LICENCE? πŸ˜‚

There was a time when being 11 years old, having a pony and a few equally questionable friends was apparently all the supervision you needed.

We’d disappear for hours…..

Hacking miles from the yard, riding one and leading two, jumping anything that vaguely resembled a fence, racing across fields and occasionally getting completely lost.

No mobile phonesπŸ“΅ No GPS. No tracking apps.

Our parents had absolutely no idea where we were, and quite frankly, neither did we half the time. πŸ˜‚

We’d return at some point, usually starving, filthy and with a story that definitely didn’t include everything we’d been up to.

And somehow, we’d be straight back out again the next morning.πŸŒ…

Different times. Different freedoms. And some absolutely legendary ponies who deserve medals for putting up with us. πŸ₯‡

What was the most outrageous thing YOU got up to with your pony as a child? πŸ‘€ πŸ€”

We’re expecting some stories that would give today’s riding instructors a nervous breakdown. πŸ˜‚ 😳

GREAT ADVICE πŸ’š 🚢 🐎
it's so easy to forget a day here and there, but consistency is key. so start small πŸ‘Œ

To anybody who wants to ease themselves into a reliable habit of exercising their horses, here's my #1 tip.

Start small

❌ Don't aim for 'sweat', endurance, or burning caloriesπŸ”₯

Not at first!

The reason most people fail is this:
A lack of consistency...

Haven't we all started?
Often many times?

What would have been different if we... had NOT stopped exercising? Assuming your horse was healthy.

What if we were able to get started and pick up our exercise routine after we had stopped? What would the life of our horse look like then?

The biggest fail is to "not start again". The biggest *secret* (and I'm doing anything I can to reveal this to everyone) is:

Consistency!
The 10/10 Handwalking Challenge proves that:

βœ… Consistency is your Super Power. Everyone can become consistent with their goal. The 10/10 Challenge shows you how.
βœ… Support is everything: starting something new is so much easier with 1) support and 2) a group of peers.

βœ… Starting small, lowering the threshold to start AND to keep going, makes it DOABLE and FUN!!

People forget that the start of a new habit or behaviour seldom looks like the end result.

When I started the "From Couch Potato to 5 K" running program after I had given birth to a beautiful baby boy, I was asked to jog for 5 metres! That small effort led me to be able to run 5 K (kilometres) after 8 weeks!

The 10/10 Challenge is SIMPLE, EASY and FUN!

Simple:
Rules are simple. Ten consecutive days of handwalking your horse.
Easy:
Only ten minutes a day. You'll get tips to lower the threshold even more if this seems too challenging for you/your horse right now
Fun!
You can connect with peers in the Facebook group.

Almost all participants gain valuable insights, discover how powerful "starting small and being consistent" really is, and they also make greaat improvements in their training and bond with their horse.

Here are some of the things you might be thinking right now:

⏰ I don't have time
> All good horse owners can dedicate 10 minutes for 10 days in a row to improve their horse's health.

If they can't spend 100 minutes (less than two hours) on their horse's health... πŸ€”

πŸ’² I don't have money

>The 10/10 Challenge is so affordable, everyone can participate.

If you need an excuse to have more fun with your horse πŸ˜‰ This is it! Once you discover the power of Fun First you'll see how easy it becomes.

πŸ‚ September is Pain Awareness Month, and after a few conversations with clients recently, I thought it was worth posting about something we don’t always consider when it comes to our animals and long-term pain relief.
πŸ«€ I completely understand why owners can be concerned about using long-term pain medication, particularly when they’ve heard about potential effects on the internal organs. Those concerns are valid and should always be discussed with your vet. But we also have to consider the welfare implications of an animal living with ongoing pain.

🦴 For an older animal, or one dealing with chronic conditions such as arthritis, nerve damage or other long-term conditions, pain relief can sometimes be an important part of maintaining quality of life.
The key, though, is remembering that pain relief should ideally help an animal live more comfortably, not encourage it to do more than its body is capable of.
If your dog is comfortable enough to enjoy two 30-minute walks with pain relief, that doesn’t necessarily mean those walks should become two hours simply because they now seem happier and more capable.

Pain can act as an important protective signal, and masking it without addressing the underlying limitations can potentially lead to an animal overdoing things.

πŸ§“ As humans, many of us accept that managing aches and pains is simply part of getting older. We should give our animals the same consideration for their comfort and quality of life β€” while also respecting what their bodies are telling us.

πŸ’Š long term pain relief is not a bad choice to make, but it should not be used to make them do more because that's what we want. πŸ’š
