One thing Ive done over the years, purely for fun, NOT talent 😄 is mix.
In 2001 I got a pair of Technics 1210s, mainly mixing jungle and a bit later on , house & garage.
At the same time I was classically trained in piano, working towards a big performance exam at school, and sang in the choir.
It was a proper contrast but it worked and I loved it all.
Because music has been and will forever be life to me.
A few years back in early sobriety I picked up the piano again, and some CDJs, reigniting the whole love affair.
On my recent 1:1 call with my incredible mentor Natalie we chatted about the healing power of music and I told her I was missing the decks.
So she set me a challenge:
Get them out and start mixing again 😛
So I did 🫡 .. and it feels good to have dusted them off!
It’s all a part of me you see, and it’s incredibly healing because it’s always given me a sense of connection.
One that for a long time, I searched for in all the wrong places.
From the softest sound baths, to indie, cheesy musicals, jazz, choral, classical, devotional, soul, gospel, jungle, rnb, house , garage and so much more.
It has the power to ignite these different parts of me.
🎵 Can you relate?
Do you enjoy a full range of music and does it give you permission to express the varied parts of you?
Because we don’t have to fit in one box.
In fact, I find that very limiting …
💃🏼 On another note, I love a sober dance and the idea of a conscious sober 90’s rave..
I posted it in my stories over the weekend and it generated a surprising amount of interest.
It’s amazing for a release & most importantly FUN!
(Especially when navigating difficult times, we need it)
Would you agree?
