Several tempestuous oceans, each with a semicolon keeping its nose above the water. These ones are for the boys!
My own battle with mental illness has been a rather public affair for many years. But I have found recently, maybe since my book of lockdown images, that other men are talking with me about their own fight. And a lot of these men are the coolest, hard working and successful, calm in a crisis geezers that I’ve ever known. I wouldn’t have suspected they struggled and I can smell mental illness at 100 yards.
So it seems that way more men than even I imagined are fighting this damn dirty war. And don’t be mistaken that if they aren’t sobbing, gnashing their teeth and making a spectacle of them selves that they are not standing strong against this soul crushing dread. Don’t be thinking they aren’t having to justify their own existence to themselves every fu***ng day.
All of you with a significant other who always says he’s fine, who has an asshole’s grin and laughs like a Musketeer. Yet sometimes you find him stood quietly alone, a little lost chap wishing he knew what to do next. Maybe give these boys a break this Christmas. Be gentle with them and make a little sweet fuss. Because these motherf**kers are my brothers.
And we keep fighting and laughing
And we are intrepid.
Oh and I said these are for the boys, but anyone can buy one. All are original, mixed media on board, framed and juicy. I will post them all later when I have finished piasing about with them. They vary in size from a6 ish, up to just over a4 ish. And I was planning to ask for between 12 and 40 pounds for them based on size etc.
So hopefully not too pricey, I just need enough to get my girls some Christmas presents.
Hugs. X
