If your boundaries keep collapsing, you’re probably missing step three. Most people never get there.
There are three steps to a boundary that actually holds. They come from my Family Friendly Boundaries 2.0 module. This week you can go as deep as a paying client for free because I’m giving the whole thing away.
Step one. Create. Get clear on what your boundary actually is. Not what you want them to stop doing. What YOU will do. What YOU will tolerate. How YOU will respond.
Step two. State. Say it. Clearly, calmly, without justification. You don’t need them to agree. You don’t even need them to fully understand. You just need to say it.
Step three. Separate. This is where most people give up. Because saying it felt like enough. It wasn’t. The boundary lives in what you do next. Not in what you said. Consistently. Every time. Without negotiation. Separation from their reaction is vital.
Create. State. Separate. That’s where real boundaries begin. Everything else, the maintenance, the outcome, comes after.
