Look Out For This Book This Autumn 🔥
When I saw this image show up on my FB feed from the creatrix Lynette Allen Gather the Women Publishing I knew it was meant to be.
The collaborative process of creating together was deeply feminine and supportive - 52 women from around the world - all contributing an authentic chapter on the theme of what space means to us 💓
This theme of Women choosing and having a right to a natural boundary - space, time, restoration, rest, pleasure, whatever it means - has deep layers to it.
My chapter explores the power of nature (birthing seals) and the ancient Selkie myth, a teaching tale our ancestors knew of the necessary power of women going within. Recovering the Sea of the Soul. The Alchemist.
And how it can evoke all kinds of reactions and stir up threads that are archaic, visceral, political.
I experienced this on my first ever shift as a seal warden at Winterton-on-Sea. These beautiful animals land on that beach to give birth at the pace they need.
I was shadowing Mick Davies, an experienced duty warden with a deep love for birds and nature. It was a vast bright autumn day and he was helping me identify bull tracks in the sand. A great man with a protector's soul.
We heard on the radio the notorious trike man had just assaulted a female seal warden for politely asking him not to throw a ball straight at two pregnant seal cows. He pretended to listen then drove straight at her.
Of all the miles of Norfolk glistening coastline he chose to take his dogs ball throwing where a natural boundary asked him not to.

The healer writer in me knew this entire seal colony that coexisted right by a village of humans was a deep learning on how we relate to the wildness of nature.
How the flight and fight responses of the seals, especially the females, was going to draw something out of me I needed to explore around my own adaptivenervous system.
To choose to write is to understand the power of words to evoke. Each chapter in this book is infused with lived experience.
