Hot conditions can affect medicines and how well they work.

It’s easy to forget that medicines left in the heat – in cars, bags, or on sunny windowsills – might not work properly when you need them.

If you are taking long-term medication, it is important to double check how your medication reacts with the intense heat and follow these tips to avoid any issues.

With the current heat continuing to build over Europe, a rare RED heat-health alert has been issued for the South East replacing the current Amber heat-health alert from midnight tonight (00:00 Wednesday 24th June) to midnight on Thursday (23:59 Thursday 25th June). This is the highest level of alert and indicates a risk to everyone's health, not just vulnerable groups.

There are lots of things you can do to keep yourself and your home cool.

During the summer months, if you use any form of prescription transdermal patch (e.g., pain relief or contraceptive, or HRT), it’s important to keep the area cool.

Elevated temperatures can cause the patch to release too much medication over a quicker period of time, so it’s important to keep it out of direct heat, and watch for any side effects.

If you’re concerned, please seek medical advice.

Men's Health Week runs from Monday 15th June to Sunday 21st June.

This year’s campaign is about men and pharmacy. Encouraging men to use local pharmacies for health access rather than self-diagnosing online or ignoring symptoms. If we could improve their relationship, we could boost men's health by promoting preventable health checks, reducing the stigma around mental health and encouraging them to seek early medical intervention.

This week is Cervical Screening Awareness Week.

Cervical screening saves thousands of lives each year – and takes just around 10 minutes or less.

All women aged 25 to 64 are invited for cervical screening every 5 years. The test checks for cell changes in your cervix. Caught early, these can be treated before they become something more serious.

You’re in control throughout — you can ask questions, request a smaller speculum, try a different position, or pause or stop the test at any time.

Make your appointment when you get invited. Missed your last appointment? Contact your GP practice to book another.
