“I just don't feel like me anymore.”

I've heard those words from so many women over the years.

And sometimes it's difficult to even explain what “not feeling like me” means.

You're still you.

But perhaps your confidence has disappeared.
Your patience seems to have packed its bags.
Sleep has gone completely rogue.
Your brain isn't cooperating.
And things that never bothered you before suddenly do.

One of the things I've always felt strongly about with menopause is that it's not about trying to turn someone back into the woman she was before.

She's changing.

It's about helping her understand what's happening, discover what she needs now and find her own way through it.

Perhaps even discovering a version of herself she rather likes. 💜

Some mornings, everything just feels too much.

I've had mornings when I've woken up feeling overwhelmed by everything.

Even deciding what to have for breakfast or whether I want tea or coffee feels like too much… let alone actually working. 😂

So here's what I do.

I make a deal with myself.

Just one small thing.

Or I'll work for just 10 minutes. Maybe 30.

Then, if I want to stop, I can.

Quite often, something interesting happens.

I finish that one thing… then do another.

And before I know it, I've achieved far more than I expected, sometimes in surprisingly little time.

Completing even a small task can give the brain a sense of reward and help create momentum.

So on those overwhelming days, I don't focus on the whole mountain.

Just one small thing.

And that's often enough to get me moving. 💜

When thinking becomes overthinking… 🤔

Sometimes the more we think about something, the more complicated it becomes.

We analyse.

Second-guess.

Add another “but what if…?”

And before long, something that may have started quite simply has become confusing, frustrating and overwhelming.

And after all that thinking?

Sometimes we've achieved absolutely nothing. 😂

Overthinking doesn't always bring more clarity.

Sometimes simplifying things and looking from a different perspective can be far more useful.

Perhaps not everything needs quite as much thinking as we give it.💜

40 years ago today, we said “I do.” ❤️

And I don't think either of us really knew what those two little words would come to mean.

We've grown up together, helping each other grow, change and evolve into the 'us' we are 40 years later.

We've had wonderful times and moments of great sorrow.

There have been times when we've been on completely different pages…

but somehow, we've always been reading the same chapter of the same book.

And what a book we've created.

Two amazing grown-up children.

Two granddaughters who are, of course, absolutely perfect, I'm their grandma, I'm allowed to be biased. 😂❤️

And a granddog. 🐾

We don't always like the same things.

But we've learnt to give each other space and support our own particular brands of quirkiness.

And my goodness, we've laughed.

At each other. With each other. Sometimes until we can barely breathe.

“You're weird.”

“I'm weird.”

Yep. Somehow it works. 😂

I think that laughter has carried us through more than we realise.

We've learnt to listen too.

To know that “I'm fine” doesn't necessarily mean I'm fine.

After 40 years, apparently it's all in the 'tone' of the “fine”. 😂

We make time to get away together. Just us. To breathe and reconnect.

And he still surprises me with the quirkiest gifts.

Like a tea tray with two donkeys on it because he knows I love donkeys. 😂

It's those little things that say…

I know you.
I love you.
I saw this and knew it would make you smile.

Are we perfect?

Good grief, no. 😂

We get cross. We get upset. We don't always understand each other.

But we find our way through.

Again and again.

And perhaps that's what 40 years of marriage looks like.

Not staying exactly the same, but allowing each other to grow, change and become more ourselves…

while still choosing to grow together.

So today, 40 years after we first said “I do”…

We still do.

Only now we understand those two little words rather better. ❤️

Happy 40th anniversary to us, Colin.

You're weird.
I'm weird.

And after 40 years…

I reckon we've made weird work rather beautifully for US 😂❤️

Here’s a thought…
What does your internal voice actually sound like? 🤔

Would it be soft, gentle and nurturing? 💜

Or is the voice you hear harsh, critical and constantly telling you what you 'should' be doing?

And here’s another thought…

If you could control the volume, which voices would you 'turn up?'

Which would you 'put on silent?'

And which ones would you quite happily 'delete altogether?' 😂

Have a little play with it today and notice what you notice.

You might be surprised by who’s been doing most of the talking. ✨

I didn't figure all of this out on my own.

I had help.

People who asked me questions I hadn't thought to ask myself.

People who helped me untangle what was actually me from all those years of what I thought I should be.

And occasionally made me go…

“Ohhhhhhh… THAT'S what I've been doing!” 😂

And I think that's one of the reasons I love the work I do.

Because that's often what I'm doing with my clients.

Helping them figure it out.

Whatever 'it' happens to be.

What's getting in the way.

What they actually want.

Or simply helping them see something from a completely different perspective.

I don't have all the answers for my clients.

They do.

Sometimes they just need someone alongside them who knows which questions to ask and where to gently shine the torch. 🔦😉

That's certainly what I've needed.

And I'm very glad I allowed myself to have it. 💜

And if you could do with someone alongside you while you figure out your own “it”… I'm always happy to have a chat. 😊

The last Bank Holiday before Christmas! 😳😂

I'm not entirely sure how we've got here already…

But apparently this is the last Bank Holiday before Christmas. 🎄

No. I'm not ready to talk about Christmas either. 😂

So instead, I'm taking this as a little reminder to enjoy today rather than racing ahead to what's coming next.

Whether today involves going somewhere lovely, seeing people you enjoy, pottering around at home, getting outside, or doing absolutely nothing productive whatsoever…

I hope there's a little bit of something in it just for you. 💜

And if doing absolutely nothing is the plan?

I fully support it. 😂

Happy Bank Holiday! ☕🌿

What they actually want.

What needs to change.

Or sometimes simply helping them see something from a completely different perspective.

'They do.'

Sometimes they just need someone alongside them who knows which questions to ask, where to gently poke around a little… and perhaps shine a torch into the bits they haven't thought to look at yet. 🔦😉

Something rather lovely has happened since I stopped trying to be who I thought I was supposed to be…

I feel lighter.

I sleep easier.

That constant little internal struggle of “I should be doing this” or "I ought to be more like that" has become so much quieter.

Don't get me wrong, I still catch myself. 😂

And then I have to remind myself…

'I don't do things that way anymore.'

I'm still working it out.

Still shaking off a few of those old shackles.

Still occasionally having to find the courage to say 'YES' and step into something that feels exciting, different and perhaps a little bit scary.

But over this summer, so many unexpected opportunities have literally fallen into my lap.

And I've said yes to them.

What a fantastic ride it's turning out to be.

Because I don't think I'm actually becoming a new me at all.

I think I'm finally allowing out the me that's always been there…

She was just hidden underneath an awful lot of “shoulds” 💜

And I rather like her. 😉

24/08/2026

I've made a decision.

Over the summer, and yes, we actually had a cracking summer here in the UK 😂☀️

I've realised it's time for me to stop doing things because they're 'expected' of me.

Things I should be doing.

Things I'm 'supposed' to do because I'm a mum, a grandma, a therapist, a wife, a woman in her 60s… or whatever other label happens to be attached to me.

I've spent decades toeing the line.

Being sensible.

Doing what was expected.

And somewhere along the way this summer, I decided…

Enough.

I've shaken off that old coat and I'm giving myself the freedom to do what feels right for me, in my way.

And honestly?

It's immensely liberating.

I can't deny it's taking a little time and a bit of work to get used to it. Those old 'shoulds' have been hanging around for a very long time.

But…

FREEDOM TO BE ME.

Ohhhh, that's music to my soul. 💜

And I'm curious…

What would you stop doing if you stopped worrying about what you were “supposed” to do?
