While I’m
Healing from surgery I’ve been painting these little illustrations for a book Tony had written called ‘The Journey to the Tree’.

A snippet: They call me Derrick. Not the grandest name for a donkey, I’ll admit—but I’ve carried worse things than a name. Grain sacks, firewood, the occasional grumpy traveler. Still, nothing—nothing—like the journey I’m about to tell you.

It started with her. Mary. She climbed onto my back one quiet morning, lighter than most passengers, but carrying something… different. I can’t explain it properly. I’ve got good instincts—comes with being a donkey—and I knew straight away this wasn’t an ordinary trip to visit family.
