It's Positive Ageing Week, so let's celebrate the experience and contribution of older people.

Alan is blind and is one of our 83 years old clients, who chose to make a difference to our Sensory Matters Worcestershire community, by completing a sponsored walk at his care home in Kidderminster. He managed to raise in excess of £518 for our charity, which will help us to continue to provide support, information, advice, guidance and social opportunities for our clients.

Thank you Alan!

Let’s celebrate every generation and the connections that make our communities stronger!

PD: Alan, a man with white hair wearing a blue and white checked shirt and grey trousers stood to the left of a Sensory Matters Worcestershire roller banner. To the right of the banner is Councillor Shazu Miah, the Mayor of Kidderminster, a tall man with grey hair, wearing a dark grey suit, light blue shirt and wearing his golden chain of office.

That's a wrap for both National Eye Health Week and International Week of Deaf People.

Both weeks have been a chance to talk about looking after our eyes, and to celebrate Deaf culture, identity and sign language.

- Information and advice on living independently
- Equipment, tech and practical tips for home and daily life

Self-care Fr-eye-day

Happy FrEYEday! Let’s take action for good eye health.

Looking after your eyes means .

Stay hydrated, get quality sleep, spend time outdoors, remove eye make-up, relax with a warm compress, ensure good eye hygiene.

My favourite thing to do when I get home from work is to relax for 10 minutes with a heated eye mask.

What are your top eye health self-care tips? We would love you to share them with us.

Picture Description: On a pale pink background, bold dark pink text reads “Self-care Freyeday. Self-care habits help protec tyour vision and eye health.” The National Eye Health Week logo is also displayed.

Day 4 of International Week of Deaf People No Access Without National Sign Language

We are re-sharing this post about the Worcestershire County Council about a new way for residents to contact them.

Residents whose first language is British Sign Language (BSL) can now contact the County Council through a new SignVideo service.

SignVideo is a Video Relay Service (VRS) that connects a resident whose first language is BSL with a qualified BSL interpreter via a secure video platform. The interpreter then calls their telephone line and facilitates the conversation between the resident and a Worcestershire County Council colleague.

Currently you can contact the following services:
Customer Services – the main contact for Worcestershire County Council
The Adult Front Door – support for adults 18 years and older
The Family Front Door – support for children 0 to 18 and their families
The Emergency Duty Team for Adults and Children’s Social Care – support for emergencies where an adult or child is at risk of harm and which cannot wait until the next working day.

Worcestershire County Council hope to add further services in the future.

More information about the services available and how to use SignVideo is available on their website:

https://www.worcestershire.gov.uk/contacting-us-using-british-sign-language-bsl

Please see the video below.
