We spent years educating people about the dangers of sunbeds, so it may come as a surprise to learn that they're making a comeback - particularly among younger women.

Despite clear evidence linking their use to skin cancer and premature ageing, recent figures suggest usage is rising again among 18 to 25-year-olds. Social media trends, beauty pressures and the enduring appeal of tanned skin appear to be driving a worrying resurgence.

In my latest blog, I explore the long-term impact they have and the warning signs of skin cancer everyone should know.

Read more here:

There are some trends that feel so firmly consigned to the past that you assume they could never return. Smoking on aeroplanes. Not wearing a seatbelt. Using olive oil to deliberately burn in the midday sun (yes, really). And yet, surprisingly, one trend I thought younger generations had largely rej...

When spots appears during perimenopause or menopause, many women make the understandable mistake of trying to "dry out" their skin. Harsh cleansers, aggressive exfoliation and stripping products may seem like the obvious solution, but midlife skin often presents a unique challenge because it can be breakout-prone and increasingly sensitive or dehydrated at the same time.

This is why a balanced skincare approach is so important. The goal is not to remove every trace of oil from the skin, because it needs some oil to maintain its protective barrier. Instead, the aim is to reduce congestion, support the skin barrier and calm inflammation while maintaining adequate hydration.

Tropic Skincare has has developed a range of products for oily and blemish-prone complexions that help manage excess sebum and keeps pores clear. For many women experiencing hormonal breakouts, a simple routine often works best:

A gentle cleanser morning and evening.
Ingredients that help regulate excess oil and congestion.
A lightweight moisturiser to support the skin barrier.
Daily SPF protection.
And consistent use rather than constantly switching products.

You can shop the range via my ambassador store here - https://tropicskincare.com/collections/skincare-for-oily-blemish-prone-skin - or pop in to our Worcester clinic.

New Blog Post.

Longer, fuller lashes have become one of the beauty industry’s biggest obsessions, with many turning to growth serums. But while some products can genuinely improve lashes, others may carry risks you maybe completely unaware of. Before applying any products close to your eyelids, here are the key things you should bear in mind: https://www.drjuliasen.co.uk/post/an-ophthalmic-surgeon-s-guide-to-lash-serums

"The most beautiful faces are the ones that still move, still laugh and still look entirely like themselves."

There’s a lot of pressure now to “start early” with anti-ageing injections, especially on social media where terms like “preventative Botox” are everywhere. But ageing is not a race and not every line needs treating.

In our latest blog, Dr Julia Sen explains why she believes younger women are increasingly worrying about perfectly normal facial expressions, and that subtle, natural-looking results should always be the goal.

Read more here:

One of the biggest changes I’ve seen in recent years is the age at which people start asking about anti-ageing injections. A decade ago, most patients considering treatment were in their 40s, 50s and beyond. Now, I regularly see women in their 20s worrying about tiny expression lines that are ofte...

Figures released this week by Cancer Research UK show new melanoma skin cancer cases diagnosed in a year has risen above 20,000 for the first time in the UK.

While warmer weather is something many of us look forward to, it’s also an important reminder to take skin changes seriously and protect your skin from UV damage. Early diagnosis really does matter. If you notice a new mole, a change in colour, shape or size, or any area of skin that simply doesn’t look or feel right, it’s always worth having it checked professionally.

Split earlobes can be caused by years of wearing heavy jewellery, an earring pulled accidentally or sometimes it’s simply part of the ageing process as the tissue loses strength and elasticity.

Lobuloplasty is a minor surgical procedure to restore the natural shape and structure of the earlobe. At our Worcester clinic, Dr Julia performs lobe repair with the same precision and attention to detail as any facial reconstructive procedure, carefully repairing the tissue to create a natural-looking result. Treatment is performed under local anaesthetic as an outpatient procedure.

You can find out more about Lobuloplasty (Earlobe Repair Surgery) here - https://www.drjuliasen.co.uk/lobuloplasty - or get in touch with us to arrange a consultation.
