Did going on holiday highlight your child's struggles around food and picky eating which often shape your family's plans? Choosing restaurants, packing snacks and making day trips can all be incredibly stressful and affect the whole family.

At Sunlight Nutrition we offer an integrated feeding clinic where we help families to break that cycle. Through gentle, child-led feeding support, we can help children feel safe enough to explore food and parents feel supported every step of the way.

We don't offer a magic wand but do offer step by step experience and support towards your individual goals and the hope that next years holiday will have less stress, more confidence and a child who feels proud of their progress.

💧 Staying hydrated is an important part of looking after your health.
Water is essential for your body to function well. It helps regulate body temperature, supports digestion and transports nutrients.

Most people should aim to drink 6–8 cups or glasses of fluid each day, although you may need more in hot weather, during exercise or if you’re unwell.

Good choices include:
✔️ Water
✔️ Milk
✔️ Sugar-free drinks
✔️ Tea and coffee

You can also boost your fluid intake by eating foods with a high water content, such as cucumber, tomatoes, melon, strawberries and oranges.

Small, regular drinks can help you stay hydrated and support your overall health. Keeping a flask of water with you, can help remind you to take regular sips throughout the day.

Summer is the perfect time to enjoy the wide variety of berries grown across the UK. Not only are they delicious, but they’re also packed with nutrients that can support a healthy, balanced diet.

🍓 What’s in season?
• Strawberries
• Raspberries
• Blueberries
• Blackberries
• Blackcurrants
• Redcurrants
• Gooseberries

Berries are naturally rich in:
✔️ Fibre, which supports digestive health.
✔️ Vitamin C, which contributes to the normal function of the immune system.
✔️ Plant compounds called polyphenols, which are associated with a range of health benefits as part of a balanced diet.

Suggestions for ways to enjoy them -
🥣 Add a handful to your breakfast cereal or porridge.
🥛 Mix into natural yoghurt for a simple snack.
🥗 Sprinkle over salads for a fresh summer twist.
🧊 Freeze them to enjoy in smoothies or desserts later in the year.
🍓 Enjoy them just as they are for an easy, nutritious snack.

Choosing seasonal fruit is a great way to add variety to your diet and can often be better value when it’s in abundance.

What’s your favourite summer berry? 🍓🫐

Just because you’re not hungry doesn’t mean your body doesn’t need nourishment.

One of the most common things we hear from people taking GLP-1 medications is:
“I'm just not hungry.”

While that might sound like the medication is “working,” consistently eating too little can have consequences.

Over time, inadequate nutrition may contribute to:
• Fatigue and low energy
• Loss of muscle mass
• Difficulty meeting protein and nutrient needs
• Poor concentration
• A strained relationship with food if eating becomes something you avoid rather than enjoy

The goal isn’t to force yourself to eat large meals—it’s to nourish your body in a way that works with the medication.

That might look like:
🥣 Smaller, more frequent meals
💪 Prioritising protein at each meal
💧 Staying on top of hydration
🧀 Having easy, nutrient-dense snacks available
❤️ Remembering that nourishment isn’t based on whether you feel hungry.

GLP-1 medications are one tool—but they’re not a replacement for good nutrition.

If you’re finding it difficult to eat enough or you’re unsure whether you’re meeting your nutritional needs - We can help and support you to nourish your body alongside the medication.

Food is more than nutrition.

It’s routine.
It’s comfort.
It’s culture.
It’s connection.

And for many neurodivergent people, it’s also closely linked to sensory experiences.

If eating feels difficult, overwhelming, or stressful, the answer isn’t simply “try harder.”

Support might involve:
✨ Creating predictable meal routines
✨ Finding nutritionally similar foods with preferred textures
✨ Reducing the pressure around trying new foods
✨ Building balanced meals from accepted foods
✨ Working towards gradual, achievable goals

Healthy eating doesn’t have to mean perfect eating.
It means finding an approach that works for you, supports your wellbeing, and feels sustainable in everyday life.

If you’ve been struggling with eating, you’re not alone—and we would love to support you. You can find more information here - www.sunlightnutrition.co.uk

Disordered eating doesn’t always look the way people expect.

It can include:
• Constant dieting or food rules
• Skipping meals because you’ve forgotten to eat
• Eating only a very limited range of foods
• Feeling anxious about eating in social situations
• Cycling between restriction and overeating
• Feeling overwhelmed by planning or preparing meals

For neurodivergent individuals, these behaviours aren’t always about body image.
Sometimes they’re linked to sensory needs, routines, executive functioning, anxiety, or burnout.

Understanding the “why” behind someone’s eating is far more helpful than making assumptions.

Our dietitians work with people to build healthier eating patterns in a way that respects their individual needs, preferences, and neurotype.

Small changes can make a meaningful difference.

Starting school is a big milestone—for both children and parents. 💛

If you’re wondering whether your child is ready to communicate confidently in the classroom, you’re not alone.

Some children need a little extra support with their speech, language, or communication skills before they start school. Early support can make a real difference to their confidence, learning, and ability to build friendships.

If your child:
✨ Is difficult for unfamiliar people to understand
✨ Finds it hard to put words into sentences
✨ Has difficulty understanding instructions
✨ Gets frustrated because they can’t say what they want to say
…a speech and language assessment may help.

Every child develops at their own pace, but if you’re worried, it’s always okay to ask questions. We’re here to support you and your child every step of the way.
