🌿 Practising What I Preach: Self-Care, Recovery & Natural Wellbeing 🌿

While managing a shoulder injury recently, I've been reminded how important it is to listen to our bodies, seek the right support, and allow time to heal. It's the same advice I often give my patientsβ€”whether you're dealing with foot pain, mobility issues, or recovering from treatment, taking care of yourself isn't a luxury, it's a necessity.

As part of my own self-care journey, I've also been enjoying creating a natural pain-relief balm using nettle-infused oil, beeswax and eucalyptus essential oil. I love exploring natural ways to support comfort and wellbeing alongside professional treatment.

What do you do to look after yourself when your body tells you it's time to slow down?

Fun Friday Fact: Your big toe has tiny β€œhelper bones” πŸ‘£πŸ«˜

Did you know there are two small pea-shaped bones under the big toe joint called sesamoid bones?

They may be tiny, but they have an important job.

A few quick facts:
🦴 They help the big toe move smoothly
🚢 They support push-off when you walk
πŸ‘Ÿ They can feel irritated if there is too much pressure under the ball of the foot
πŸ‘  Thin soles, high heels, or lots of time on hard floors can make this area feel more noticeable

It is a good reminder that even the smallest parts of the foot can make a big difference to comfort and movement.

πŸ‘‰ Fun question for this Friday:

Where do your feet feel pressure first?
Heel 🦢
Ball of the foot ⚽
Toes πŸ‘£
Arch πŸŒ‰

⚽ Today, I had the pleasure of visiting a patient who absolutely loves playing football! However, he was experiencing discomfort due to his big toes. After assessing the situation, I found that his big toenails had lifted from the nail bed, creating a perfect environment for bacteria to thrive.

I carefully removed the lifted nail, cleaned the nail bed, and smoothed out the remaining attached nail. The result? A happy chappy who can now get back to playing football with ease! πŸ₯³πŸ‘Ÿ

It’s always rewarding to help someone get back to doing what they love. Keep kicking it, my friend! πŸ’ͺ✨

Fun Friday Fact: Your Achilles tendon is a power cable for walking πŸ‘£βš‘

Did you know the Achilles tendon is one of the strongest tendons in the body?
It connects your calf muscles to your heel bone and helps you push off the ground every time you walk, climb stairs, run, or stand on tiptoe.

A few quick facts:
⚑ It helps power every step you take
🦡 Tight calves can place extra strain on the heel and foot
πŸ‘Ÿ Supportive footwear and gentle stretching can make a big difference to comfort
It is a small reminder that foot health is not just about the toes and nails. The whole lower limb works together to keep us moving.

πŸ‘‰ Fun question for this Friday:
What makes your feet or calves feel the most tired?
Stairs πŸͺœ
Long walks 🚢
Standing all day πŸ™‹
New shoes πŸ‘Ÿ

Fun Friday Fact β˜€οΈπŸ‘£

Did you know your toenails can grow a little faster during the summer?

Warmer weather can support better circulation, which may mean:
βœ‚οΈ nails need trimming more often
πŸ‘‘ sandals put feet more on show
🚢 more walking and activity means feet need a bit more attention

It is one of those small seasonal changes people do not always think about, but it is a great reason to keep an eye on your foot health.
πŸ‘‰ What do you notice first in summer?
🌡 Dry heels
πŸ’§ Swollen feet
βœ‚οΈ Toenails needing attention

Fun Friday Fact: Your big toe is the boss πŸ‘£πŸ‘‘

Quick challenge before you scroll.

Your big toe plays a key role in balance and β€œpush off” when you walk. If it does not bend and function well, the rest of the foot often has to work harder, which can contribute to pressure spots and discomfort over time.

Now for the fun part. Try this β€œtoe test” at your desk or sofa. πŸ˜„

Keep your smaller toes down

Lift only your big toe

Swap: keep the big toe down and lift the smaller toes

Some people can do it easily. Others look like they are trying to operate a crane with their foot.
