Wow, this has not happened for a while.

A client has not arrived for their session.

And it got me thinking about our counselling trainees, because this is something many experience during training.

When you are working towards qualification, every client hour matters.

So when a client does not show up, it can bring up all sorts of feelings.

Frustration.
Worry.
Disappointment.
Self-doubt.
Concern for the client.

And that is all part of the learning.

It is not just about the missed hour.
It is about noticing what comes up in us, taking it to supervision, reflecting on it, and understanding our own response.

Because counselling training is not just about what happens when clients arrive.

It is also about how we sit with what happens when they do not.

🌿 I’m sitting under the wisteria listening to the children next door playing… 🌿

There’s something really lovely about this time of year 💭

After the quietness of winter, everything seems to slowly come back to life again — the gardens, the sunshine, the sounds of people outside, children playing, conversations drifting through open windows ✨

And listening to it all today made me feel a little emotional in a way I can’t quite explain. Maybe a little melancholic 🤍

It made me think about when my own children were younger.

Those busy, noisy, chaotic years that somehow feel both a lifetime ago and only yesterday at the same time 🌱

I suppose life is a little like the seasons really…
Some things change.

Some things stay the same.

And time moves far more quickly than we realise 💜

Just thought I’d share that moment with you 🌿

We are currently interviewing for the Level 6 CPCAV Supervision course.

It runs on the weekends and it runs on the Wednesday,
so it's one Wednesday and one weekend a month.

We touched last lesson on care plans,
not just for ourselves but also to have a bit of a watch out for our supervisees

that might be heading towards burnout
or might be taking a very heavy workload.

So that remindedme that I needed to look at my care plan.

So I'll share with you part of my care plan is
to learn Japanese.

So I'm going to say a little something.

Gohan to misu kudasai.

What does that mean I hear you say?

Well it means I won't starve in Japan.

It means rice and water please.

There we go. See these little things that make you happy.

It makes me happy.

🌿 It’s warm, it’s sunny, it’s peaceful… 🌿

I’m sitting here thinking how lovely it feels outside right now 💭

It’s calm.
It’s quiet.

And honestly… I really don’t want to go inside and do marking 😅

Part of me is thinking “be responsible and get it done…”

and the other part is thinking “surely the marking can wait just a little bit longer?” ✨

Sometimes it’s the little everyday moments like this that remind us how important it is to slow down and enjoy where we are 🤍

So now I’m curious…

💭 “This isn’t just a course about training to be a counsellor… it’s about investing in you as a person.”

I had another lovely conversation today with Karen as she reaches the end of her Level 4 counselling journey 🌿

When I asked how she had found the training, she described it as a huge investment in herself — not just professionally, but personally too 💜

And that really captures what counselling training often becomes for so many students.
Yes, you learn theory, skills and professional practice…
but you also learn about yourself.

You grow in self-awareness.
You reflect deeply.
You discover parts of yourself you may never have explored before ✨

When I asked Karen what advice she’d give to somebody thinking about starting the journey, she said:
