It's Learning Disability Week (15–21 June) 🟒

This year's theme is "Do you see me?", a call for people with a learning disability to be seen, heard and valued, not overlooked.

At Independent Lives, that's what we're about every day: supporting people to live the life they choose, on their own terms.

This week is Carers Week (8–14 June) and we want to take a moment to recognise the incredible unpaid carers in our community πŸ’š

This year's theme is Building Carer Friendly Communities, and it's something we feel really strongly about. Carers do so much, often without much recognition or support.

Our carers respite service is one of the ways we try to help. It gives carers some much-needed breathing space, while the people they care for enjoy:

🚌 Outings – Lunch trips around Sussex on our accessible minibus, Indie
🏑 Sompting Hub – A warm, welcoming space with activities and lunch
🌱 Glorious Gardening Club – Getting hands in the soil and fresh air
🚢 Wandering Walkers Club – Gentle, accessible walks with refreshments

If you'd like to find out more about our respite services, send us a message and we'll be happy to help.

This Pride Month, we're celebrating the beautiful diversity within our community! πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆβœ¨

Did you know that LGBTQ+ disabled people are more likely to experience isolation and face additional barriers to accessing support? At Independent Lives, we're here for everyone, no matter who you are or who you love.

Pride is about visibility, acceptance, and belonging. We're committed to making sure our services reflect that.

Happy Pride! πŸ’™πŸŒˆ

Our vision? An accessible society where disabled people have real autonomy, choice, and control over their lives.

Independence looks different for everyone. It's about having the freedom to make your own choices and live life your way.

What does independence mean to you?

πŸ’™ "To my mum, you were a lifeline."

These words remind us why we do what we do.

Caring for someone you love is incredibly meaningful, but it's also demanding. Our carers' respite service gives family carers the essential break they need to recharge, knowing their loved one is safe and well cared for.

When we support carers, we support entire families. Thank you to everyone who trusts us with their loved ones. πŸ’š

Did you know? Our website and PA pages include an accessibility widget so you can adjust your browsing experience to suit your needs. 🌟

Whether you need larger text, different contrast settings, or screen reader support, we've built these tools because we believe everyone deserves access to the information and resources they need to live independently.

If there are other accessibility needs our website isn't addressing, we're always here to help, please reach out and let us know how we can improve.

This Global Accessibility Awareness Day, we're proud to continue our commitment to making independence accessible to all.
