Wellspring West Sussex is an independent organisation and registered charity, set up to provide information, dialogue and discussion with and for children and young people with disabilities, and their parents and carers in West Sussex. We produce free newsletters, provide information via our website and newsletter and help to fund creative workshops for groups of children and young people with disabilities throughout West Sussex.

Sunday 9th August was a beautiful day for our summer holidays Wheely Wonders day. It was lovely to meet 5 new boys with their parents as well as some of our regular families along with a grandma all the way from Brazil!

Everyone enjoyed feeding the donkeys and goats as well as holding the chickens and getting up close to the sheep and lambs.

Sam and Kerri led Woodland Wonders Forest School where everyone had great fun hunting for bugs, making memory wands and and sawing wood, as well as enjoying the nest swing and hammock.

After lunch Lizzie's Craft Club was in the shade where we created pictures with lolly stick frames as well as sun catcher wind chimes which looked awesome in the trees.

Chris North brought his usual Freedom Through Fun circus skills and bubbles ,then we ended with a magic show under the shelter. One of the youngest children learned how to be an assistant for the first time, cheered on by friends and family!

THANK YOU to our brilliant volunteers who we couldn’t do without! Wheely Wonders days have been made possible thanks to players and we hung our bunting in appreciation!

The sun was shining on 14th June for Wheely Wonders when we welcomed 19 children with parents; 7 of these came for the first time. Everyone was excited to see the new lambs and enjoyed feeding the goats and the donkeys as well as holding the chickens.

At Woodland Wonders Forest School with Jen and Sam, children enjoyed bug hunting and sawing wood to create Elder wood puppets, as well as spinning in the nest swing and relaxing in the hammock. Back on the field, the fire was lit for toasting marshmallows.

After lunch Lizzie's Craft Club was in the shade and colourful hanging signs were created using paint pens and stickers, with pipe cleaners and beads for hangers – they looked incredible!

Freedom Through Fun's Chris North brought amazing stomp rockets and big bubbles - musical instruments and puppets were popular too! We ended the afternoon with a magic show with some of the new children joining Chris to be assistants.

A big THANK YOU to our awesome volunteers who make each day run smoothly! Wheely Wonders days have been made possible thanks to players and we hung our bunting in appreciation!

Wheely Wonders in May was a wet and chilly day but it didn’t stop 11 children and parents coming and enjoying the day – four children hadn’t been before and some were returning after a long time.

After the rain had stopped in the morning, we got to feed the goats and donkeys as well as holding the chickens. It was lovely seeing children happily chatting to their friends too.

Luckily it stayed dry for Woodland Wonders Forest School with Jen and Kerry and some of the children had success building a bridge across the ditch while others had fun in the nest swing! There was some bug hunting and discovery of a slow worm! Wood crafts were taken back to the dry of the glasshouse to decorate before an early lunch – unfortunately it was too wet for fire lighting!

Freedom Through Fun's Chris started off the afternoon with some magic before Lizzie arrived for Lizzie's Craft Club. Everyone created pictures on paper plates with pens, foam and stickers to remember the day as well as some scratch art magnets.

There was some time for bubbles and stomp rockets outside before going back to the glasshouse for more magic and music with Chris before the end of the day.

Our first Wheely Wonders Family Day of 2026 was held at Applefield on Sunday 12th April and it was wonderful to welcome back 14 children with their parents. Luckily it was a lovely bright day – a big change after all the mud and rain through the winter!

Everyone loved seeing the animals again – the donkeys and goats were very happy too! Bedroom Slippers and Rosie the chickens were pleased to come out as well!

At Woodland Wonders Forest School with Jen and Sam, activities included making necklaces with Elder wood and creating pictures by bashing leaves as well as the challenge of building a bridge! Around the fire circle, families tried their fire lighting skills and enjoyed toasting marshmallows before lunch.

Lizzie's Craft Club was a spring themed afternoon, using magazine pictures to decorate card flower shapes as well as garden themed sun catchers. Lots of the adults got deeply engrossed in the crafts too while their children happily played on the field.

Chris brought his car full of all his amazing Freedom Through Fun circus skills, musical instruments, puppets, big bubbles and stomp rockets. We decided to put on a very special show – each child was able to come up and do their “act” with Oliver acting as a fabulous compere! We ended the afternoon with some parachute games and a group photo.

Thank you to all our fantastic volunteers – we couldn’t do without you all. Wheely Wonders days are still being made possible thanks to players and we hung our bunting and waved our flags to say THANK YOU!
