Volunteers' Week 2026🌟

This Volunteers' Week, we're celebrating the incredible difference volunteers make in our care homes every day.

From sharing a conversation and supporting activities to helping in our gardens or baking with residents, volunteers bring companionship, laughter and meaningful moments that enrich the lives of those we care for.

Could you spare some time to make a positive difference?

At Hartford Care, we're looking for volunteers to join our homes and support residents in a way that suits your interests and availability. Hours and days are flexible – it's your contribution that makes you special.🩵

As Dementia Action Week comes to a close, we want to thank everyone who has engaged with our posts, shared experiences, and helped raise awarenessđź’™

This week has been an opportunity to highlight the importance of understanding, compassion, and person-centred support for those living with dementia.

Across Hartford Care, we remain committed to creating safe, supportive environments where residents are treated with dignity, encouraged to maintain their independence, and supported to continue enjoying the moments that matter most to them.

Although Dementia Action Week may be ending, raising awareness and supporting those affected by dementia is something that continues every day.đź§

Meet the team behind our care🩵

This week, we’ve shared the importance of understanding dementia, supporting independence, and creating meaningful moments for those living with dementia - but none of this would be possible without our incredible teams across Hartford Care.

These photos show just some of the compassionate colleagues who make a difference in our homes every single day. From sharing a laugh, offering reassurance, encouraging favourite hobbies, or simply being there during difficult moments, it’s the small acts of kindness that mean so much to residents and their loved ones.

We are incredibly proud of the dedication, patience, and compassion shown by all of our teams across Hartford Care, helping residents feel safe, valued, and truly at home.

Thank you to all of our amazing teams for everything you do🫶🏼

Dementia Action Week - Day 5🩵

Living with dementia shouldn’t mean giving up the things that make you who you are.

Across our homes, we encourage residents to continue enjoying familiar hobbies and meaningful activities - whether that’s baking, gardening, painting, playing games, or spending time doing the things they’ve always loved.

Our teams tailor support around each individual, helping residents maintain their independence, choices, and sense of purpose wherever possible. Because person-centred care is about more than support - it’s about preserving dignity, freedom, and identity every single day.

These moments reflect the kind of person-centred care we strive to provide across all Hartford Care homes🥰

This is Patricia, a resident at one of our care homes enjoying a performance from a live singer. She shared how listening to music helps bring back precious memories and moments from her past.🎶💜

As Dementia Action Week continues, we are taking a closer look at the benefits of music therapy for people living with dementia.

According to Dementia UK:
• Music can help a person with dementia connect with the past by evoking memories, feelings and experiences that they might otherwise find hard to express.
• Certain types of music can reduce distress and provide comfort, especially classical music or songs from a happy time in a person’s life.
• Music can encourage mental stimulation and support engagement.

Seeing Patricia reconnect with treasured memories through music was truly heartwarming and reminds us of the powerful impact music can have on wellbeing, connection and joy. 🩵

As we begin Dementia Action Week, we’ll be sharing daily posts to help raise awareness, challenge misconceptions, and promote understanding around dementia care.🩵

Today, we’re starting with a common myth vs fact.

❌ Myth: Residents with dementia are unaware of their surroundings and can no longer enjoy activities that they once loved.
✅ Fact: Even when communication becomes more difficult, people living with dementia can still experience joy, connection, and continue enjoying many of the activities, hobbies, and moments they’ve always loved.

By understanding dementia better, we can help create more compassionate, person-centred support for those living with it every day.

Help us raise awareness by sharing this post and supporting better understanding around dementia.

Also, stay tuned throughout the week for more dementia facts, awareness posts, and ways we can all support those affected by dementia.đź§
