Today is World Su***de Prevention Day and to be honest this year I wondered whether it was appropriate to post about it as there have been several recent losses in our community. I decided to as it’s more important than ever that we have these conversations.

Although I feel that now mental health is talked about much more, the topic of su***de is still one that people shy away from. Having worked with numerous clients that have been suicidal or clients that have lost loved ones to su***de, I know that there still needs to be much more conversation around this. Yes, it is hard but it needs to be done.

If you are reading this and you have been having suicidal thoughts, please talk to someone, either a professional or someone you are close to. Anyone else reading this, please know that there are signs to look out for, so inform yourself and keep it in mind. Sadly, sometimes it does come completely out of the blue but an awareness of this is a start. Look after yourself and each other. You are not a burden.

Sending love as always,
Amy 💕

🙌 I am so excited to be offering this workshop to qualified and student counsellors that are interested in finding out more about setting up private practice!

💕 This is what I would have wanted to know when I started 6 years ago!

🌟 My workshop is a starting point only and by no means do I claim for it to be a complete guide or to guarantee you a successful practice, but it will be honest as I go through the highs and the lows of my own experiences.

message me for more info or to book on 🥰

And just like that September is here and with it for many comes the return to school, College, Uni, work!

Some may be ready for a bit of routine. For many it’s an exciting time, but for some the thought of it can be filled with anxiety and a sense of dread. This includes some parents as well as their children for a whole range of reasons.

Think about ways to help combat the worries and try to focus on the positives and make sure to do some fun things together with your children. My main advice would be for parents to listen to their children/ teens, don’t judge and instead validate their feelings. If the feelings of low mood or anxiety continue for over a couple of weeks it may be a more deep rooted issue so it may be time to talk to a teacher or even a counsellor (I know a good one!😉)

I have managed to finish this crystal art that has taken me all holidays, it felt important I got it done before I'm back in work this evening, I'm not sure why but I'm glad it's done and looking so pretty!

I had a lovely Sunday morning stroll (well actually it turned into a hike as I got lost and was way longer than had planned but never mind!)

I was craving space, fresh air and time to reflect.

The summer holidays have felt topsy turvy! It's always a juggle and I know I'm not on my own with that feeling! But this summer it felt more than usual. Our new puppy has brought out family so much love and happiness but it's chaotic and tiring too adjusting to our new routines and having very little sleep!

There's been times of celebrations, joy and laughter but we've also had times of great sadness and loss. What I have noticed though that during whatever has been going on that connection and being together has been the most important thing and the little things have really mattered, shared support holds us together, just like it does in a counselling session.

My walk gave me time to reflect on all that has happened and I also noticed that there was an early feeling of Autumn in the air as leaves are starting to change and some are falling already. For my family, things are going to continue to change as we move into the season for changes and I know that I will need to look after my loved ones as well as myself.

Change is inevitable for us all, but it can feel challenging or heavy so making sure that you have support by means of family, friends or in a more professional way like counselling if needed, is so important as well as having space to rest and take care of yourself 💕

Even on my week off I still enjoy attending training and this morning was one of my faves doing some creative art journalling and reflecting on the ups and downs, the tears and the joy, the chaos and the peace and all the in between moments of my summer 💕

This made me laugh so had to share! I am trying not to be an ‘angsty therapist’ and I have tried to keep my office as cool as possible for us all but it has been hot this past week and yes, I do love my scarves and cardis 🤣

Today is a big day for some young people getting their AS/A Level results!

I know there will be so many emotions; fear, hope, sadness, happiness, worry, heartbreak and anxiety. Whatever you are your young person is feeling I just want to say that it’s ok to feel that. I can’t highlight this enough, these feelings are valid.

If your child is upset with a result that you think is good, please try see it from their point of view and don’t minimise it.

For the young person, if it hasn’t gone your way, there is always options, just take a moment and breathe. If it has gone your way, don’t be afraid to celebrate your achievements!

Lots of love to all that need it today for whatever reason, Amy 💕
