The Natural Movement Method starts Wednesday 9th September 10am (UK).

Learn somatic movement within the context of your life.

My 90 day programme is deeper than just a movement class. This is deeper than just learning the practice. It’s applying it to the context of your life.

Who you are and how you live is wonderfully unique, and long term change does not happen in isolation to this. It comes from embracing and being aware of it, of you.

Learn, embody, integrate.

This is transformation within the context that you live.

This so much more than just movement.

This is long term change.

If you feel a YES to join me and now’s the time to start expanding your life, let’s go!

Somatic practice is all about connection, and when we experience somatic movement in places that we have a connection, it’s like it supercharges our experience.

The feel of the warm earth underneath and being connected to the ground is so nourishing and connecting.

Practising on a warm beach is perfect because it’s that double grounding from outside and from within. It takes you to a deeper level when you practice in an external environment that you have a connection to.

Today is National Beach Day and I wanted to share with you some of my favourite beaches where I’ve practiced somatics.

This image is particularly special for me. It’s my motherland - Aberystwyth - and the hill that’s in the background is called Constitution Hill. It has a funicular railway going up it and it’s on that hill that my mum and dad met. So it’s a deeply special place for me.

Do you have a favourite beach or a favourite place outside that has deep meaning for you?

I urge you to practice your somatic movement next time you are there and feel that supercharged connection.

Much love,

Karen x

How soon am I going to start feeling different? Well….the answer to this question is different for us all. Two significant factors are, 1) how do you approach and explore your practise, and 2) how do you spend the majority or your life?

I hope this is helpful…Archie wasn’t impressed with his dog walk being interrupted, but there’s nothing like a walk to feel creative and inspired to share, so here I am, dodging the thunderstorms!

When did you stop feeling joy and doing the things you love; long walks, dancing, sport, playing freely with our children or grandchildren?

I’m inviting you to join me for a FREE online workshop, where you’ll discover how ease, joy, and pain-free movement are not something you force. You’ll learn how these states are your true nature just waiting to be remembered and revealed through an approach of compassion, curiosity and powerful yet simple clinical somatic skills.

In this workshop you’ll learn:

Why chronic pain and stiffness are signs of disconnection — not ageing or damage

How unconscious tension keeps you locked in patterns of stress and compensation

How to return to your innate wisdom without force, struggle, or suffering

And receive a 60 minute movement class to release worry, anxiety and increase fuller breath and energy. This is a gentle and empowering class during which you’ll learn a somatic, science-rooted approach to movement that takes as little as 5 minutes a day to feel more relaxed.

You’re made to live and move with ease.

You’re made for connection and to feel at home in yourself.

✨ You don’t need fixing.

✨ You don’t need more treatments.

✨ You’re 1st nature hasn’t left, it’s just waiting to be remembered and unveiled.

Come and rediscover your natural state of peace, joy, and effortless movement.

To Join my next FREE online workshop on 13th August at 10am, send me your name and email in a DM and I’ll send you an email to sign up 💚

You’re sleeping… but still waking up exhausted?

In which case, when was the last time you had a really indulgent yawn?

Somatic movement can help your body unwind the day’s tension, so your nervous system is ready for truly restful, restorative sleep.

The practice peels away tension built up during the day, bringing people into a rest-and-digest state that prepares the body for nourishing sleep.

Even 5-10 minutes before bed can be very effective, and you can do some of the practice in bed.

Yawning is the body’s natural way of releasing tension. The somatic method I teach recreates this effect, helping release tension, energise, and prepare for rest.

If you live with cats & dogs - they are your greatest reminder. Look at how many times they yawn/ pandiculate a day.

Next week I’m off to the World Yoga Festival and it’s fair to say I’m so looking forward to indulging in and experiencing so much that’s on offer there.

This does mean that I won’t be around to teach your Monday morning class next week as normal, but...I’m really pleased to let you know that your class is still happening as the wonderful Bronwyn will be skilfully guiding you through your practise, yay!

Bronwyn has covered many Somatic Habit classes over the last year and so many of you have received her skilful teaching before. And if you’ve yet to meet her I’m excited for you, you’re all in for a treat!

For members, the zoom link to join Bronwyn’s class will be in your membership site under - Join Live Classes and for those of you booking a single class you’ll be emailed the link.

I’ll be returning to zoom Wednesday 5th August at the slightly earlier time of 8pm so I look forward to catching up with those of you who are joining me then.

In the meantime, happy pandiculating lovely somas.

Much love

Karen

Somatic movement is a huge part of my self-care, but it’s not and can’t be everything.

Self-care is also giving my dog a cuddle.

Self-care is also playing with Archie.

Self-care is hugging a tree.

Self-care is enjoying a chai.

Self-care is resting your head while cuddling the biggest & softest cushion.

How do you practice self-care?

Is it reading a book? Meditation? Going for a walk? Journalling? Taking an afternoon nap? Meeting friends for lunch?

When did you last experience self-care?

Share your favourite self-care routine in the comments.

How’s this week feeling for you so far, where are you feeling it within you?

Part of developing a somatic habit is to become increasingly aware of and remain connected with your felt sense, your unspoken world, your internal sensations.

In a culture where our focus is continually drawn to the world outside of ourselves, a world where focus and status is placed highly upon knowledge, our felt sense and somatic intelligence ends up way down the list of importance and significance.

And yet, a self-sensing and self-correcting organism is exactly what we are! In recognising this, we can start to appreciate how and why we experience emotional and physical dis-ease, having unconsciously disconnected from and forgotten how to sense and feel ourselves.

What a relief to know we can reconnect any time we choose, by simply taking a moment or more for a soma scan.

No matter where we are, we always have the ability to send our awareness internally to observe our felt sensations, thereby connecting and anchoring ourselves to the present moment, to the here and now.

To explore this for yourself, take a moment to close your eyes or soften your gaze and observe:

- How your feet connect with the ground? What kind of imprint are they making?
- How your sit bones meet the chair underneath you, is the imprint balanced left and right?
-  Where your awareness lands most freely, what do you sense there?
- Place 1 hand on your belly and 1 on your chest, notice what movement you feel under your hands.

Soma scans are incredibly powerful because they anchor us to the here and now and enable us to be present, simply by observing our internal sensations. And helpfully, we don’t need a special place, we don’t need to lay down, we don’t need to ‘set the scene’ to benefit from them. We simply choose them and sprinkle them through our day as much or as little as we like.

And, when we use them before, during and after some movement practise or during a full class, they help to deepen our learning and allow time for the changes and learning to integrate. They are indeed as important as the movements themselves!

Until next time, happy pandiculating and soma scanning!
