We provide sexual health services and free condoms at the Health C

entre and will provide you with any information you may require. Patients who are registered with the practice can, at any time, express a preference for a particular doctor, and we will do our best to respect your choice. The contraceptive implant (Nexplanon®) is now licensed to work for 5 years, instead of 3 years.
If your implant was fitted less than 5 years ago, you may not need it replacing as soon as you thought.
If you have questions about your contraception or you are unsure when your implant was fitted, please contact your sexual health service or GP practice for advice.

MenB Vaccination Update
You may have seen information about a new Meningococcal B (MenB) vaccination offer.
Please note:
✅ This vaccine is being provided by local community pharmacies – not GP practices
✅ Eligible patients will be contacted directly by the NHS (usually by text message)
✅ The message will explain:
If you’re eligible
How to book your vaccination
What proof you need to take with you

💬 GP practices are not booking these appointments, but we will be updated once your vaccination is completed.

If you receive a message from the NHS about this, please follow the instructions provided to arrange your vaccination at a pharmacy.

The York St John Surgery will be closed for Summer between 15th June - 21st September 2026.

The Surgery will reopen Monday 21st September 2026 at 08:00.

Our other York Medical Group sites will remain open as usual, and you can contact us online to request an appointment at another surgery.

If you have any questions during this time, don't hesitate to contact York Medical Group on 01904 439100.

If you need to seek medical attention while at home, please only temporarily register with your GP practice; otherwise, you will need to re-register with the student health centre when you return.

UPDATE- The issue appears to be now resolved thank you for you patience.

We’re currently experiencing an issue with our online triage system, which is affecting multiple practices in the local area. At present, submitted forms are not visible to our team.
This has been raised with the system provider, who are working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.
If your query is not urgent, please contact the practice later today or once services are restored.
Unfortunately, our team is unable to submit forms on your behalf at this time. If you are able to complete the form online, you can still do so; however, please be aware that there will be a delay in these being reviewed.

REMINDER All York Medical Group surgeries will be closed TODAY 25th March 2026 between 12:00 – 18:00.
Our Doctors, Nurses and Reception Staff will have training provided by the Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB).
Surgeries will reopen Thursday 26th March 2026 at 08:00

🚨 Important: Meningitis (MenB) Vaccination Update 🚨

As you will be aware there has been an outbreak of meningococcal disease linked to Canterbury and the University of Kent.

If you are a student at the University of Kent or the University of Canterbury only, you may be eligible for a free MenB (Bexsero) vaccine (or have recently been in contact with affected groups or locations, including certain halls or a Canterbury nightclub between 5–16 March). Please bring your student ID card when attending.

If you’ve returned home and couldn’t get vaccinated locally, your GP practice can now provide this on request.

👉 Please contact your GP if you think you may be eligible
👉 Bring student identification with you to your appointment
👉 The vaccine requires 2 doses (second dose 28 days after the first)
👉 Vaccination helps protect you and others

Stay aware of symptoms and seek urgent medical help if you feel unwell.

We are not currently offering the MenB (Meningitis B) vaccination at York Medical Group. This vaccine may be available privately. We will share further guidance from the local health authority as it becomes available.

An Additional Way to View Your NHS Record
Some patients may find the Airmid app useful for accessing parts of their NHS record — particularly vaccination history, which isn’t currently always visible in the NHS App.
Airmid works similarly to the NHS App and now supports NHS Login, so you can sign in using the same details you already use.
