September is Move More Month, so why not kick it off with some exercise at home? British Blind Sport have home work outs of varying levels available on Spotify YouTube and Apple Podcasts.

There's lots of choice, including; yoga, pilates, HIIT, boxercise and much more! These audio led workouts were devised during lockdown to help people with a visual impairment continue exercising at home, and they continue to be hugely popular.

Moving a bit more helps our physical and mental health and can open up our worlds and introduce us to new people.

Our friends at York Talking News are celebrating their 50th Anniversary with their 600th edition on 1st September 2026.

They began life in 1976 as York and District News for the Blind with Listeners came to us, mostly through The Blind and Partially Sighted Society and word of mouth. By the 12th with listeners coming mostly through The Blind and Partially Sighted Society and word of mouth. By the 12th edition 80 copies were regularly being sent out and by the 375th edition they had a solid circulation of 250 listeners.

The most well-known voice of York Talking News is Graeme Robertson, who read on the very first edition and on almost all of them since. Graeme is also a familiar voice to our supporters who listen to our quarterly newsletter magazine, InSight, as he reads that for us, alongside another volunteer reader, Dorothy. After 50 years, Graeme has decided that it’s time he stepped back and will retire from the York Talking News on their 600th edition.

We would like to say a big thank you to Graeme for his many volunteered hours over the years, and the continued support to the Trust that he gives. Also a huge thank you to York Talking News who continue to help us with the recording of InSight.

York Talking News continue to record and bring listeners local news and magazine articles and What’s On in and around York. They are available via their website, and via a smart speaker.

The dates for our autumn and winter Tinnitus Support Group sessions are now available, with the next meet-up on Wednesday 23rd September. The following dates are-
21st October, 18th November and 16th December and all on Wednesday afternoons at 2-4pm as the evenings get darker.

The support group is available to anyone living with tinnitus, and you dont need a formal diagnosis to join us. Its just a friendly and welcome group to meet others and share stories.

We're excited to be waving off one of our tenants, Lewis, who today heads to Birmingham to compete in the Special Olympics multi-sport National Summer Games event. He will travel with his family for the opening ceremony, and games, which begins tomorrow.

Lewis has been training and competing in athletics since 2013 and has attended a number of games, and winning medals along the way. This year he'll compete in the 100m, relay and long jump and he's aiming for gold!

We're really proud of you Lewis!

As mentioned yesterday, there are lots of ways you can donate to Wilberforce Trust, and support us.

One way is to sponsor our children's group, Club Wilber. Club Wilber provides accessible activities and events for young people, 0-25, with a visual impairment, and their families. The group is free to join and all the activities are there to be enjoyed by other family members too, something that isn't always possible. We welcome families from across Yorkshire and all activities are free, or heavily subsidised.

And that's where our sponsors come in. There are different tiers to sponsorship, or you can simply fund an activity. Something like our recent 7th birthday party...
