This summer, Rainbow of Ribbons returns, and we're inviting our community to dedicate a ribbon in honour of someone who means so much. Whether you're celebrating an occasion, saying thank you or remembering a loved one, your ribbon is a meaningful tribute to your special person. 🌈

Each dedication means that St Leonard's Hospice can help more local people get the expert care and support they need, when they need it most. 💛

Choose from six locations to display your ribbon and help brighten up our community from 13 July to 17 August.

Visit https://stleonardshospice.org.uk/rainbow-ribbons/ to find out more and dedicate a ribbon online. 🌻

The Wolds Walk returns this Saturday! 🥾

Deb Tomkinson is taking on the challenge this year to support St Leonard's in honour of her mum, who volunteered as a nurse, starting in the late 1980s, when the Hospice was in its infancy.

"Mum loved her time at St Leonard's," she said. "I wanted to follow in her footsteps and support the Hospice in some way, so that’s why I decided to take on this challenge."

Two years ago, Deb had two spinal surgeries and could hardly walk, so signing up for the Wolds Walk feels especially meaningful.

"I’m determined to do it, and I've been working hard to build up my strength," Deb added. "I've got a clear plan for the day to pace myself, heavily incentivised by food stops, and I've been getting some training in beforehand. When I go out with friends, they drop me between four and five miles away from home, so I can walk back. This is helping me enormously!

"This challenge means a lot to me, and I'm really looking forward to making a full and enjoyable day of it."

Good luck and thank you for your brilliant support, Deb! 💛

You can still sign up for the Wolds Walk until the end of the day on Wednesday 10 June. To find out more, head to: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/stleonardshospice/2046678

It’s National , and we’re celebrating the incredible work of our Carer Support Service.💛

The team provides free support to people caring for someone with a terminal or life-limiting illness. These situations can have a huge impact on families and loved ones, and we’re here to care for those who care, too.

Sharon, one of our Carer Support Workers, joined the Hospice just two months ago. Here’s what she says about her role:

💬“I’m really enjoying connecting with people in their homes and feeling that I can make a difference. Having just last year been through a similar experience myself, I’m able to use that to support families. There is comfort in being able to talk. Families are often on constant high alert during this time and can feel completely exhausted. I’m glad I can help carers have a break and take some space when they need it. I feel privileged to do this.”

This Volunteers Week we’re celebrating the launch of our new youth volunteering scheme🌻

We’re proud to offer young people aged 16 to 25 the chance to gain hands on experience on our Inpatient Unit, supporting patients, families and staff while building confidence and developing valuable skills.

Jarria, 19, is one of the first to get involved. After finishing at York College, she’s now gaining experience as she works towards a future career in nursing.

💬“It’s been a really great experience so far. It’s nice to meet and chat with patients and their families and be able to help out at a local charity,” said Jarria.

It’s fantastic to see young people getting involved and making a difference. Thank you to all our volunteers, you help make our care possible.

💛Delivered in partnership thanks to Volunteering for Health, Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board and York CVS, to open up more opportunities for young people in healthcare. Find out more about volunteering with us: https://stleonardshospice.org.uk/volunteering/

This Volunteers’ Week, we’re delighted to celebrate the reintroduction of Ward Helper Volunteers, who support patients on our Inpatient Unit.

Our Ward Helper Volunteers offer practical support and a warm presence to patients, visitors and staff. That might be helping with refreshments, preparing for mealtimes or just spending time with someone who may enjoy a bit of company.

These volunteers play an important role in creating a caring, welcoming environment, and we’re so pleased to be bringing this opportunity back.

Thank you to all our volunteers for the difference you make every day. To find out more about volunteering with us: https://stleonardshospice.org.uk/volunteering/

It's Volunteers' Week, and we're saying thank you to our 500 volunteers at St Leonard's Hospice for the incredible contribution they make every day. 💛

This afternoon, we held our annual volunteers' party at our new (as yet unopened!) Clifton Moor donation centre and shop. Volunteers from all areas of St Leonard's came together for a sneak preview of the new site as we celebrated their kindness, generosity and commitment to the Hospice.

To our volunteers, thank you. We truly couldn't do what we do at St Leonard's without you. You make the difference. 🌻

We’re proud to work with North Yorkshire’s Blueberry Academy, giving students the chance to build confidence, learn new skills and gain hands on experience in our Donation Centre and kitchen.

We’re grateful to Joel, who volunteers with our catering team through Blueberry Academy each week, and to all our volunteers for everything you do.💛

This Volunteers’ Week, we want to say a huge thank you to our incredible 500 volunteers. The Hospice’s care simply would not be possible without you 💛

Throughout this week, we'll highlight the many ways volunteering makes a difference. We’re starting with something we are really proud to be part of: the Diversity in Volunteering project.

Working in partnership with York CVS and RAY - Refugee Action York, we are creating meaningful volunteering opportunities for asylum seekers, refugees and migrants.

Through this work, volunteering is more accessible and inclusive, helping people build confidence, develop skill and feel part of their local community.

Volunteering should be for everyone, and we are proud to support a project that opens doors and breaks down barriers.
