A huge thank you to all the supporters who have been busy raising funds for St Leonard's Hospice over the last few weeks! 🌻

Here's a look at what some fabulous fundraisers have been getting up to…

1. The Wolds Gundog Academy organised a fundraiser in memory of Adrian Robinson on Yorkshire Day, donating £1,000.

2. The 5:15's held a charity concert in aid of St Leonard's and raised over £5,150.

3. Southlands Methodist Church York performed their recent musical, Firebrand, and raised £270 through collections at the performances.

4. The 2025 Malton & Norton Golf Club captains raised £2,750.

5. Charlie Malarkey and family organised a fun event, which raised £2,000 towards their Yorkshire Marathon sponsorship target.

6. Janet and Peter Newell organised their annual Strawberries and Cream Summer Fair and raised £1,030.

Because of your incredible support, St Leonard's can continue to be there for local people living with a life-limiting illness and those close to them. Thank you. 💛

This summer, we brightened up our communities across York, Selby, Easingwold, Pocklington and Malton with our Rainbow of Ribbons and raised almost £30,000 in the process. 🌈

Thank you to everyone who dedicated a ribbon in memory of someone special. We're only able to do what we do at St Leonard's because of the generous support we receive from our community. Thanks to you, we can continue being here when people need us most. 💛

We displayed rainbows in two new locations for 2026: St Michael's Church in Malton and Rowntree Park in York. A huge thank you to both locations for being part of our campaign this year, along with Selby Abbey, Easingwold Market Place, our Pocklington shop and the Hospice. 🌻

This week, we had the privilege of visiting this year's Summer Super Draw winners, Ted and Jean, to present them with their prize of £500 and a luxury hamper! ✨

💬 They said: "We’ve played the St Leonard's Hospice Lottery for a while, but we never considered that we'd actually win!

"We take part simply to support the Hospice because we know how vital the services it provides to the community are.

"We're going on holiday soon, so we may use some of the money to treat ourselves while we're away or use it for something special afterwards. We're completely blown away!"

Thank you to Ted and Jean for their continued support over the years. 💛

Could you be our next winner? Head to https://stleonardshospice.org.uk/lottery to find out more and sign up to the St Leonard's Hospice Lottery today. 🌻

We're incredibly grateful to the Smith family, who have donated a chair that patients can use when taking trips out. 💛

This kind donation was made in memory of Dawn's husband, Mick, who was cared for by the Hospice in March. Dawn said: "Mick came in for symptom control. He was only here for a week, but the team knew that we wanted to get married. It was then that Ria, the Hospice's Therapy Assistant, provided a power chair for us to use at home.

"Because we had the chair, we could get out and about and do loads of things, like going on the train and visiting the zoo. We went all over the place, and without the chair, we wouldn't have done any of it.

"So, Mick wanted me to get another chair for the Hospice, so that other people could do the same."

Thank you for this thoughtful gesture, which will make such a difference to people's quality of life. 🌻

With a fresh feel, it's the latest of our shops to be refurbished in our modern style, joining those in Selby, Malton, Pocklington and Colliergate (York).

Our 15 charity shops are integral to what we do at St Leonard's, with one in 10 of our patients cared for thanks to people shopping with us. 💛

We hope you can join us on Friday as we open our doors once again! 🌻

Meet Mark, who is currently being cared for on our Inpatient Unit at the Hospice. 🌻

Speaking about his experience, Mark said: "I first became involved with St Leonard's through my pulmonary fibrosis diagnosis.

"I was reading information about my condition online and it referenced the Breathing Space group, which is run by St Leonard's. It's a monthly group where people can sit back, talk to each other, share their worries and concerns and support one another. My wife, Helena, and I started attending when I was first being troubled with breathlessness, and it's simply wonderful.

"We've met so many people who are very happy and comfortable to sit down with complete strangers to share their experiences of living with a life-limiting condition, and how you can lead a better life by accessing support from St Leonard's.

"Without the team's care, the advice they've given and the ability for us to reach out to different support groups, I would possibly be dead by now.

"While I've been at the Hospice, they've been able to work with all my symptoms to minimise them and make my quality of life so much better than it was when I first came through the doors three weeks ago. The change has been unbelievable, and the support provided to Helena at the same time has been invaluable. We have nothing but praise."
