A Japanese print with two women under an umbrella usually belongs to the ukiyo-e genre of the Edo period and often depicts bijin-ga — idealized beauties in kimono, showing everyday moments of life. The contrast of the black and white kimono can be interpreted as a reference to yin and yang — the harmony of opposites, where light and shadow exist only together and complement each other. Compositionally, the umbrella enhances the feeling of comfort and protected space, creating a quiet, almost meditative atmosphere in the scene.
