Allowable intake (AI) is the recommended average daily nutrient intake level based on observed estimates of nutrient intake by a group of healthy people who are assumed to be maintaining an adequate nutritional state.

AI is used when there is no Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA).

*Your AI for sodium per day depends on your age*

1-3yrs...........1000mg
4-8yrs...........1200mg
9-50yrs........... 1500mg
51-70yrs.......1300mg
70yrs+ .........1200mg

_Note that all measures above are less than 1 teaspoon_

However, based on its effect on blood pressure, your body can tolerate (tolerable upper intake level (UL)) 2300 mg per day that is...... 1 teaspoon
