I used to create images like this of my son — editing his little face into superheroes, into capes, into the kind of characters children dream of becoming. I loved teaching children, and in their eyes I saw it clearly: the raw desire to be powerful, to be magical, to be the heroes they watched on screens and in storybooks.
But what they didn’t know was this: they are already more than those fictional superheroes. They carry in their very DNA the strength, brilliance, and power of real heroes — our ancestors. The same ancestors whose courage and wisdom the world tries to erase, even while Hollywood secretly borrows from them.
Today, I feel deeply fulfilled knowing I am in the position to give our children what every African has always dreamed of: stories where they are not the side characters, not the erased, not the forgotten — but the center. Stories where they see themselves as the warriors, the kings, the queens, the starseeds of entire empires.
Through my Starseed Series and other Afrocentric books, our children can finally look at the pages and say, this is me. They can grow up knowing they come from greatness, carrying not just fantasy, but the real, unbreakable legacy of their ancestors.
This is my gift to them, to Africa, and to the future.
