YOUR KIDNEYS ARE DYING AND YOU DON'T FEEL A THING.
That is the cruelest part. They fail quietly. No pain. No warning signs until 85 to 90 percent of function is gone. By then, you are not choosing dialysis. Dialysis is choosing you.
Two roads. Both hard. Both demand everything.
Haemodialysis
Three times a week. Four hours bolted to a chair. Blood pulled out, cleaned, pushed back in. Afterward you are drained not tired, drained. Your diet shrinks to a list of what you cannot have. Potassium, phosphorus, fluids all tracked like a prisoner counting rations. You live around the machine. The machine does not live around you.
Peritoneal Dialysis
Daily. At home. A catheter in your belly. Fluid goes in, sits, pulls waste out, drains away. You can do it while you sleep. More freedom, yes. But that catheter is always there. Infection is a constant threat. One lapse in sterile technique and you are in the hospital with peritonitis.
Neither is a fix. Both buy time. Time for a transplant. Or time to make peace with a different life.
Here is what nobody says loud enough
Dialysis is a bridge. Bridges have two ends. One leads to transplant. The other leads to acceptance of a new normal. If you do not know which end you are walking toward, you are walking blind.
You do not get to wait for symptoms. Symptoms are the final warning.
· Cut sodium ,Processed food is slow poison.
· Control your blood sugar. Every spike shreds more nephrons.
· Drink enough water,
· Avoid NSAIDs like ibuprofen—they kill kidneys faster than disease.
· Get your GFR tested. Get your urine tested for protein. Do it this week.
Your kidneys clean your blood while you sleep, while you eat, while you ignore them. Now they are failing. The least you can do is face it with your eyes open.
Send this to someone who has been putting off that blood test.
Just a gentle reminder 🙏
