Breastfeeding is one of the most powerful things a mother can do for her baby. It protects against infections, supports brain development, reduces the risk of sudden infant death, and for mothers, it lowers the risk of breast and ovarian cancer. The evidence is clear.
It can however be difficult especially in the first few weeks.
Pain, worry about milk supply, exhaustion, pressure from family members, going back to work too soon are all real barriers. And when mothers stop earlier than they planned, it is rarely because they didn’t try. It is usually because they didn’t have the right support at the right time.
If you are a new mum and you’re struggling, you are not failing. You are doing something difficult without enough help.
Reach out to a clinician before you give up. A small intervention at the right moment changes everything.
