World Hepatitis Day

The Cape Coast Metro Health Service together with Central Regional Health Directorate and Ghana Health Service launched the Central Regional World Hepatitis Day at the Adisadel Urban Health Centre in Cape Coast.

In attendance were health representatives from Central Regional Health Directorate Cape Coast Metro Health Service students and some community leaders within the Adisadel Enclave.

Hepatitis B, which is the most dangerous strain among the Hepatitis cluster of diseases was the main focal point.

With the theme dubbed " Hepatatis, Lets Break it Down" The Cape Coast Metro Health Service Director called on invited guests, particularly Health Workers to create awareness about the disease which is referred to as a silent killer and break down barriers that limit accessibility to knowing one's status, vaccination, treatment and care and information about preventive measures.

Hepatitis B affects the liver, the largest internal organ within the human body, breaking down its ability to neutralize toxic substances in the body. Hepatitis B is mainly transmitted through sexual relations with infected persons, sharing sharp objects with infected persons and from pregnant women to unborn babies.

With the slogan, "Hepatitis; Know it, Test it, Treat it", the launch also provided an oportunity for invited guests to be screened for Hepatitis B and to commence vaccination against the disease.
